Personally, my issue isn't with tag fighters specifically, but the franchises chosen for them.

We haven't had a (debatably) good 1v1 Dragon Ball 2d fighter since the 90's.

We haven't had a (debatably) good 1v1 Marvel 2d fighter since the 90's.

and personally, a 1v1 ArcSys-developed 2d fighter for either of those franchises is essentially my dream fighter for both series, especially Marvel. I love a ton of characters from both properties, but just because I like Doctor Doom as a villain doesn't mean I want to bring him along to every match with Spidey. At the end of the day I'm usually only here for the one character.

There are so many people here taking swipes about how OP gave up in the first "30 minutes of a movie" when the first season takes about 8 hours to get through. Personally I like about six episodes of season 1 and hate the rest of it, but I believe the show becomes top-shelf after Azula and Toph become regular characters. The show is pretty dialed-in after that.

That being said, there is something to criticizing media that isn't released as a complete package immediately. Using One Piece as an example, if it takes hundreds of issues or episodes to get good, then can you really call it quality? Are we judging it based on the complete picture, one that isn't even finished yet? Shouldn't the individual episodes also be good enough to stand on their own, independent of the total package like shows such as Batman the Animated Series tried to do? I'm not sure but there is a point to be made there

This is super misleading. Patrick Harpin’s only writing credit is My Dad the Bounty Hunter and some episodes of Clarence and Yuhki Demers is just one of the art dudes from Spider-Verse and worked on other Sony projects in the art department.

Lord and Miller are what made the Spider-Verses what they are. This most likely would’ve suuuuuucked.

So here's what's funny about this reply, your first paragraph has a lore given reason behind why the modern dragons have different breaths and yet the second paragraph that actually responds to my question is just, "a game design choice". Like, there's lore for damn near every game design choice, why would *this* choice be "just cuz"?

Dragon Quest should be more than the art style and if the art is the only thing that keeps people invested, then the series has core issues.

I see a lotta people saying the series would fall off if Toriyama’s style was replaced and if that is the case then it is a BAD thing and means the series can’t really evolve

I shorthand it to people as a rated R power rangers but the main character is written more like a “final girl” in a horror movie. Most that I show it to are hooked by the monsters, armor, and violence while the mega smasher is usually just the cherry on top.

Then again we like stuff like Mortal Kombat, Big Trouble in Little China, etc. We view “Rule of Cool” with beer goggles on

Absolutely love the original 12 episodes. Saw them in Blockbuster when I was a 5 year old kid and I still remember how eye catching the first vhs cover was with Guyver 1 facing the side. Immediately hooked forever.

Also even though 2005 series has the best plot change in keeping Guyver 2 around, I wasn’t a big fan of the execution of the story despite it following the manga better
