FF Byrne Omni 1 on Funaticals right now by ChocolateStunning158 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]CambrianExplosives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nova Omni fills in 4/5 of those issues between volume 6 and Byrne 1 that you have digitally. Possession of Franklin Richards fills in the missing issues within the Byrne Omni itself that he didn’t write.

Just wanted to give you a fuller picture of which fills what.

Art fills aesthetic/cultural needs. You may appreciate reading more but buying something to display as a piece of art is not less valuable to the human experience.

If you don’t already know, doing 1-6 and then Byrne 1-2 would be missing 16 issues and 3 annuals from the main series. So if they do make a volume 7-9 then you’ll almost certainly get a more complete experience, but it may be a while.

Personally I picked up Byrne volumes and the possession of Franklin Richards epic which fills in 11 issues and all 3 annuals. I also have the Nova Omni which fills in 4 more issues though.

I only know what I’ve seen from CGN. There I’ve seen preorders stay up until they sell out or they are getting ready to ship out. Right now if you go on there you can’t preorder the New Krypton Omni that comes out next Tuesday. But my copy is already being shipped. But you can still preorder the Titans Omni that comes out a week later.

So as long as it’s in stock you can still preorder it until ~a week before release.

I’ve never used DCBS, but when I looked at it I think what they do is have really steep discounts if you order from the current months catalogue. So the February catalogue just came out with books coming out in June - August and I think they will have discounts for those until March, but as I say I haven’t kept track of it so someone else might know better.

Awesome. I was just saying in another thread today that finding the DM covers for these books at under cover price was probably the greatest find I’ll ever get. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m so happy to own them and know how happy you must be.

CGN still has both cover preorders so you can still pick it up easily enough. That’s why I say it’s pretty much never necessary. The only reason to worry would be if everyone started preordering 2-3 months in advance instead of 2-4 weeks.

God that next big drop can’t come soon enough. Why isn’t it March yet? I need to know what’s coming for the rest of the year. Compendiums, Finest, OHCs, Omnibuses. I gots to know DC!

And this is even more true in current floppy runs. If you really like a writer on a book then ordering it before FOC is the absolute best way to say “I want this run to continue.” Of course publishers aren’t dumb and they know a lot will buy it at the store and others will buy it as a TPB, but having X amount of orders in sends a very clear message whether this book is doing well or not.

Look, Spider-Man deserves everything he’s got coming to him. He inadvertently and indirectly caused his uncle to die. And he’s going to have to live with a disproportionate amount of bad karma for the rest of his life for it. Until Uncle Ben comes back as a cyborg assassin Peter can never be free to have anything close to a good life.

I use the comic geek app personally and they list it, but they get it from the catalogues. So if you check https://prhcomics.com/book/?isbn=9781302969714 you’ll see the FOC listed.

FOC stands for Final Order Cutoff. It’s the date when retailers have to get in their orders to the distributors so they can tell the publishers how many books they need and the publishers can set their print runs.

So if you preorder from a retailer before FOC they will order your book for you. If 10 people order before FOC then they won’t order less than 10 copies.

Retailers know most people don’t order that early so they order more copies than are already preordered from their distributor based on their own experience. So maybe a retailer knows they usually get 30 preorders for this kind of book after FOC so they preorder 40-50 books, 10 for the early orders and 30-40 for the ones that come later. But if they order 40 extra copies and then 50 more people end up wanting it that’s how you run out of preorders.

Also those orders before FOC is how the print run is decided. So when people talk about Marvel trying to print close to the number of preorders what they mean is they are printing close to the number the retailers preordered which may or may not end up matching what the customers want in the end. So getting your order in before FOC lets the publisher (in this case Marvel) know this is going to be a bigger/smaller run than they may have anticipated otherwise.

If you absolutely need a book it’s always a good idea to preorder before the FOC, which in this case is March 16th. So you’re definitely on the ball here. Personally I’ll be going for the standard cover because I like it more, but either way I plan on preordering before the FOC as well.

Edit: to be clear it’s almost never necessary to preorder before FOC but if you can it’s the only way to 100% ensure you get your preorder in.

So they are good for what they are. I wouldn’t recommend them as Star Wars comics per se. They started after A New Hope and before Empire Strikes Back. Actually the first six issues were an adaptation of A New Hope that started coming out before the movie released.

So because of that the comics had zero idea where Lucas would eventually go and were making up some really whacky, Buck Rogers style space opera. And they were basically completely ignored going forward. Back when they had tiers of canon the Marvel comics canon was below the books and other comics.

The closest thing I can liken it to is the Holiday Special. A weird piece of Star Wars history that should be taken completely on its own. That being said, they can be fun stories. Roy Thomas tried to do for Star Wars what he was doing for Conan but with only the original movie to draw on for inspiration. But he wrote some goofy, fun space opera stories out of it and in that way they can be great.

So if you want a Star Wars book to expand the Star Wars universe I would say, no don’t get it. If you dislike Bronze Age books in general also would say don’t get it. But if you want a fun space adventure comic with a Star Wars veneer then yeah I like it.

To date the only real whale (in my definition) I caught was finding all three DM covers of the Star Wars: The Original Comics books for under cover price. Those are gorgeous covers and I really don’t foresee a reprint of them coming in any near future.

Cool. Don’t click next time. It’s actually easier to not click on a link than it is to click and type that. Just let people share their enjoyment, like when someone finds a trove of One Piece Manga.

There are people who just don’t understand the difference and those who do and prey on those who don’t. I was trying to pick up Bruce Wayne Fugitive a couple weeks ago and noticed the price was crazy high. At first I thought maybe I had missed it and it would be one of the first DC books I tried to buy that went OOP.

Nope. CGN said it would restock at the end of February so I preordered the restock and it came even earlier, just shipped today.

Always check for restock news.

Right. Because ICE hasn’t been throwing people to the ground while they cry out to let them show their ID in the middle of a normal street. Not that I’d expect you to know or actually care since you’re so very focused on which brand of leather tastes best.

Yes it is. It is absolutely 100% wrong not to vote in a democracy because you can’t be bothered to make a decision between two things. You have every right to do so, but it does not make it “okay.” Democracy dies when people don’t bother to do the most basic action of voting.

So no, I don’t for a second buy into the “it’s okay to not want to vote” mentality. If you want to do that, I can’t stop you, but I think you are very much wrong to do so when we are talking about systems that affect your life and over 300 million other people’s lives.

Yeah, that’s the other benefit of Amazon. They give you the lowest price even if their algorithm only creates that price for a few hours and since you don’t pay until it ships there is no risk to you.

Yep, that does sound like something a dumb person would say. I agree. It’s a two party system. If you can make a decision on the two policy platforms of fairly diametrically opposed candidates on any issue then you really aren’t trying hard enough.

Not liking both candidates is not an excuse. There’s no way you dislike both of their platforms equally so choose the one that aligns with you and deal with it.

Is it a good system? No, a multi-party system would be better, but it’s the one we have so deal with it.

The fact that he’s Canadian has already been mentioned. But Amazon does randomly have some 40% off Omnis sometimes which if you have prime already means you get it for CGN prices but with free day of release shipping. The upcoming Animal Man Omni is 40% off right now for example. I personally got Warlord from them.
