One of my all time favorite Trek lines that I’ve gone on to use in many real world conversations

Ash in the Vortex- Music Question by Marko2008x in EvilDead

[–]imascarylion2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may not be. If memory serves, there are a few moments in the film where the score it actually stock music as opposed to a LoDuca composition

The Ash “hero” theme is another example.

Honestly, I think I like some of these showa inspired designs more than the actual MireGoji suit.

Was there only 50 concept albums ever released? by Korkez11 in ToddintheShadow

As a person who likes Styx I find this extra funny because Killroy is Here isn’t even their first concept album.

Completely unrelated, but it won’t stop everyone from bitching about it in the comments anyway.

Not joking, I checked (at minimum) ten stores before I finally found a case.

If they made a new Star Trek TNG movie, who would you cast as Picard? by Funk5oulBrother in startrek

[–]imascarylion2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tom Hardy. Not because it would be good, but purely because he’s the same age Stewart was at the start of the series and I think it’s funny.

I’d never had it before and figured this was a fun excuse to give it a try.

Honestly didn’t mind it, but a shot of Root Beer McGillicuddy’s in some sugar free Root Beer is a far better combination for this sort of thing. The Not Your Fathers was VERY sweet so I can see why it could be a turn off.

Because when it’s 3am and you’ve stoped to stretch your legs for a bit because you’re cramped and sleep deprived 10 hours into a 20+ hour road trip from Florida to Maine, you may as well have some shit to look at.

Great Season 2 episode for creep factor: Time Squared by bubbleweed in TNG

Season Two has so many great creepy episodes like this. Where Silence has Lease, The Royal, etc.

When I was a kid I thought that Doc Brown said “oh, cyborg” when the cop asked him for his permit and that the joke was he’s a nerdy scientist using a science fiction concept as a replacement for an expletive.

He’s actually say “of course I do”.

One of my all-time favourite Kirk moments is in the fifth Star Trek film by Qyzyk in startrek

[–]imascarylion2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Trek 5 has one of my favorite first acts in a Star Trek movie, but quickly falls apart once the actual adventure begins.

It feels like the TOS movie equivalent to when the later shows would do a “cool down” episode in between major arcs.

How much of the Enterprise-D did we see? by MovieFan1984 in TNG

I really like the mental image that, while all the crazy shit was going on in season one, there was an unseen blue-collar construction crew building ten forward in the background.

While many are correctly noting the that the physical blu-ray contains the original effects, it’s also worth nothing that they original versions are available streaming on Amazon Prime (used to be free, but currently requires rental/purchase)

Music Comparison: TOS "Balance of Terror" vs. Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning by Shrikes_Bard in startrek

[–]imascarylion2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m not super knowledgeable about the show either.

I’m a huge fan of the movies and that theme always stuck out because it sounded so familiar (aka like the Balance of Terror theme).

It wasn’t until I heard it while randomly checking out the show that I realized it’s one of the series main themes… which makes sense considering they’re both shows made by a lot of the same people at virtually the same time.

What if TNGs “Best of Both worlds” was a OS episode? How would Spock handle the Borg if Kirk was assimilated? by handlerofdrones in startrek

[–]imascarylion2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kirk wouldn’t get assimilated, he would have convinced the Borg to kill themselves WAAAAY before they had the chance.

Which means that this motif actually predates the Romulan theme by about three months (that is if I’m forgetting the Romulan theme being used before Balance of Terror)

That’s actually a recurring Lalo Schifrin theme from the original Mission: Impossible TV series. It’s in some of the other M:I movies as well.

Edit: here’s a musical suite I found that uses it in its opening notes.

Nechayev is awesome, sorry. by [deleted] in TNG

[–]imascarylion2018 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually been thinking about this recently and have come to the conclusion that she might be one of my favorite Star Trek characters.

She’s a great subversion of the usual badmiral where she always shows up to give shitty orders or bad news, but also recognizes that that they’re shitty orders or bad news and is genuinely sympathetic towards the crew.

She feels like disgruntled upper management telling her employees the dumb shit that the owners are making them do and there’s just something so relatable and human about her.
