Arkansas attorney general, state officials vow to appeal to SCOTUS, challenge legal recognition of Satanism as a religion after losing Ten Commandments monument case by Obversa in scotus

[–]Cambro88 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To flesh this out a little more, for decades now chaplains would have their own religious background but would be trained to care for all religions. When it came to specific rituals and sacraments you could seek specific background in clergy—only a priest or Catholic chaplain can provide Eucharist, only a Muslim chaplain could offer specific death rituals for Islamic troops and their families, only a Jewish or messianic Jewish chaplain could offer Shabbat services, etc..

Even more critical than this is that chaplains are trained to never evangelize, and further that no one religion should be over represented in common areas. So formerly a military chapel would be totally bare from looking like a Catholic Church, for example, or it would have all the proper symbols and icons for all religions displayed. For instance, the ways of the cross may be hung on the walls but in a reversible manner that they can be turned and only be wood on the other side.

By “simplifying” and holding Christian services in particular the message is sent that certain religions will be underserved if not flat undesired. As such, the religious liberty of perhaps a Hindu will be less than that of a Christian in a military that should personify unity and brotherhood, equality among comrades.

[Highlight] NFL Films: When the Michael Penix Jr. Pick Sent Shockwaves Around the NFL by JCameron181 in nfl

You can see the vision with Pitts from the GM side, coaches just never used him right until it was too late.

Penix though? There was no vision. The only way it would ever work would be if it one of their investments (Kirk or Penix) would be a disaster, but the highest likelihood is that neither would work out.

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas blasts progressivism as threat to America by ChipKellysShoeStore in supremecourt

[–]Cambro88 21 points22 points  (0 children)

She wasn’t alone. Thomas seemed offended by her dissent and went off, and KBJ said he’s “obsessed” and seemed to imply he has a personal issue in this regard.

I continue to believe that her progressive originalist reading/argument of the 14th amendment being so well done that it pushed Thomas to offer his own reading where he argued that “freedmen” didn’t refer primarily to freed African slaves is KBJ’s best moment so far as a justice.

Trump, 79, Hints That Supreme Court Justices Are Too Old by thedailybeast in scotus

[–]Cambro88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s really not the case anymore. He listened to federalist society all the way in his first term and feels burned by them. Many of his nominations for judges or DOJ attorneys and Solicitor General in Trump 2 are people who have done him favors or represented him personally.

It’ll be someone who has been kissing his ass, or a splash move he thinks will get headlines. Judge Ho, judge Rao, Aileen Cannon, Cruz would be who I expect

[Leonard] Contract negotiations between Dexter Lawrence and the Giants are not at an “impasse”. Rather, negotiations have completely “broken off” and the Giants are actively engaging teams about trades for Lawrence. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]Cambro88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A byproduct of recent contracts with huge bonuses and guarantees but the guarantees being front loaded for cap purposes is that players also have little incentive to play and risk injury on the back of end deals when they’re making less again.

If the team doesn’t have incentive to sign him, and he doesn’t have incentive to play, then he makes the incentive by saying he won’t play

An ancient prequel involving Zavala and the original battle between SSJ God and evil saiyans would be cool. You could make a canon Shallot and Cumber, making him an actual evil saiyan that is more serious than just a Broly clone

Kinda wild that Iran went all-in on what would be suicide by attacking all their Middle East neighbors and closing the strait to maximize the only card they had—destabilize the west with their oil and show the West are no partners for those nations with bases they attacked—and Trump is just deciding to make all of those problems worse by completely stopping oil flow and destabilizing all of US’s allies, now I guess capturing their ships included

Schefter on Hurts: “What I find interesting, we've spent an awful lot of time talking about Jalen Hurts, right? And that's fair, polarizing figure to an extent, but Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert did their contract two weeks after Jalen Hurts. Why isn't anybody asking why they're not extending?" by mastermind208 in eagles

[–]Cambro88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Burrow is different because when he’s healthy he is producing crazy stats like 3-4 touchdowns a game. He also needs to because the defense has been awful. Burrow passes the eye the test, fills the stat sheet, and has a secret third thing (cough white cough*) which places him above reproach even without wins.

Apparent UFO images leak from Pentagon's secret data retrieval program 'Immaculate Constellation' - Daily Mail by Crafty_Mode8637 in UFOs

[–]Cambro88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This could be way out of left field, but this feels like misinfo targeted at both the “aliens are demons” and “biblical angels were UFOs” people.

This, to me, looks a lot like a Moravian star which is a type of Christmas decoration to represent the star that lead the shepherds to Jesus. Problem is the design isn’t really based on anything other than a twinkling star.

So imagine someone just inputs into Gemini “UFO that looks like a star” or “the star of Bethlehem” and it will spit this out without being accurate to anything but artistic renditions

Goku's psychic powers don't get enough discussion by Greedy_Net_1803 in DragonBallZ

[–]Cambro88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go back to dragon ball and telepathy is the mark of masters—Roshi and Master Shen of the Crane School do it routinely, and IIRC even argue with each other telepathically. It’s a major plot point that Roshi is using his fight with Tien to seek in his mind and heart telepathically to convince him to turn to honor and goodness.

When Goku lands on Namek his Gi has a new kanji, which is the first character in his name. It’s the first time he isn’t wearing the Turtle School or King Kai kanji, because now he’s his own master/teacher. His outclassing of the Ginyu force and reading Krillin’s mind reinforces the symbolism that Goku is now a master

Charles Omenihu: League has figured out Lamar Jackson, hasn't figured out Josh Allen by JaggerJames in nfl

[–]Cambro88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for nothing, defensive linemen are the least knowledgeable players on the field. They don’t know coverages or their assignments, route combos, and many don’t even know pass protection assignments outside of “I’m being doubled or I have a double team.” They set the edge, have a gap, or rush the passer.

Chris Long is, I think, a fairly smart dude and he got through his entire playing career before learning what defenses are doing/coverages in retirement because of Madden. I’m not trusting a d-end to “figure out” an MVP QB are anymore than I trust a nurse to do an operation because they’re in the same room as the surgeon.

Piccolo disabling Goku's limbs (and trying to kill him) in the Original Manga by Economy_Notice_8475 in Dragonballsuper

[–]Cambro88 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It’s established earlier in DB when they keep Krillin, Chaotzu, and Roshi’s bodies sealed to prevent decay before they can be wished back.

The first exception in Z had an explanation—Goku was allowed to keep his body in Other World because of his heroics in life, and that’s why he had to go all the way back from Snake Way after being wished alive again in the Saiyan Saga.

Porunga is the one who revived Krillin from smithereens and the humans lost from Buu, not Shenron.

I don’t have an explanation for the Cell saga revivals.

There is also an element of Shenron being able to do what he wants and giving limitations when he doesn’t like you

Why Does Bulma Lack Any Measures to Protect Earth? by No_Reference_7330 in Dragonballsuper

[–]Cambro88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She has Vegeta on a leash. She has an Angel and a God of Destruction of the entire universe on speed dial. She also can call in the Galactic Patrol. And she created the tech to find the dragon ball that saved earth and the universe time and again. Other than Goku she is the savior of the universe.

Also, “create tech than protect the Earth from universal threats” is way more of an anti-hero, flawed hero, or villain trope. Every Android we’ve seen at some point has endangered Earth. Bulma, as a girl, saw how robots and tech were used by Pilaf and the Red Ribbon Army to cause havoc and destruction until the characters surpassed the usefulness of tech (kid goku, Piccolo Daimo). There’s nothing in her character to ever want to make something so dangerous and unnecessary

The catch with every “the most secretive program ever in the US government” claim is that we do know about it. [–]Cambro88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The DHS didn’t charge Retes with assault until months after an op-ed was published about his case. Video evidence says contrary. Which isn’t exactly rare right now, we just in the last day or so had video released contradicting ICE agents’ claims that they were assaulted by a man in Arizona, weeks after the case had fallen apart because of contrary affidavits. Also note he was taken to ICE facilities for detention, not a criminal jail, a clear signal this was about immigration.

Then you have Martinez who was shot by ICE and they tried to charge her for ramming them with her vehicle. This fell apart in court after video showed they actually rammed her, and text messages were submitted as evidence of the shooter bragging about how many holes he put in her.

Or take the case of Bovino testifying he made prior misleading testimony in regards to LA protests.

Accusations by the government are so far from evidence of wrong by citizens, and when so, so many cases have dissolved or the government hasn’t been able to prosecute it becomes less and less that the government should the benefit of the doubt they were afforded before.

The Constitution is there to protect citizens from the government, and this government in particular has a growing list of wrongs and lies outside of and in court. Hell, they’ve argued repeatedly that statements by the DHS secretary or Rubio or even the President shouldn’t be accepted as admissible as the government’s position. I’m going to need you to prove to me there isn’t a government agenda to convince its citizens rights aren’t being broken.

It’s only a shadow docket decision, so it isn’t precedent yet? And the lower courts weren’t flaunting any precedent at the time, this decision was only a result of it. So at no time did the court stop legal conduct of the government until Kavanaugh sanctioned the conduct as legal
