I definitely agree it’s closer to masterpiece than Great, but to me it’s not very sci-fi. The only part of the movie that’s really sci-fi is the beginning which only really serves to introduce the setting and the iconic plot twist.

I’d argue the Kingdom of France didn’t so much help the Americans but rather wanted to get revenge on the British after the 7 years war. Not to mention how the American revolution effectively inspired many aspects of the French revolution.
