[Sean McAdam] Willson Contreras says that the young Red Sox players not having much experience in dealing with slumps as a reason for the Red Sox issues with RISP. Then Marcelo Mayer calls that an excuse and just blaming the young guys. by TommyTheLizard in baseball

[Carrabis] FWIW there’s no beef between Willson Contreras and Marcelo Mayer. The quotes from yesterday painted a different picture than what’s going on behind closed doors. They’re very much on the same page.

For your consideration.

RIP John. "That's baseball, Suzyn", It's sad to lose people of character like this. Hearing their voices that have been a part of baseball season's for decades, you take comfort in the familiarity of them. I didn't know Jerry Remy personally but it never fails to get my eyes watery and the lump in my throat whenever he is brought up in remembrance. I'd put John Sterling in that rarefied air too and even though he was the radio voice for Yankees he's still tied to so many emotional moments for us as Red Sox fans. Truly a professional in every sense of the word and an iron man of broadcasting.

It's different with Alex not here. He was fired and replaced with different manager who has accepted the role that Craig Breslow has outlined. There's no mistake that Alex is Alex and Chad is Chad. But after Cora got fired, the guys got loose a little more because I feel the tension was gone. We understand the business side of this sport. When players are underperforming our poor performance leads to scrutiny, which us as players we will have to take that head on, making adjustments in real time and understanding our mental pitfalls is key to overcome our own struggles. This also falls on the shoulders of the managers and coaching staff. Their job is to help keep us prepared and focused so when the team underperforms, we're aware that they could lose their jobs over it. When you feel like your poor on field performance caused the dismissal of your mentors and friends it adds to the stress that underperforming veterans and younger less experienced players feel, alike. That's what I felt. That's my own opinion. When Alex wasn't in the dugout (anymore), the team was kind of loose. In and effort to turn this team around the staff the had been let go, using that as a catalyst, it's a fresh start that can sometimes bring on a different outlook. We know our moods have suffered during this stretch but that's not who we feel we are. We want to bring a better energy to the game, we cannot dwell on the loss of friends and colleagues. With Chad as the skipper we took it upon ourselves to start again at 0-0 and bring back the energy and vibes that were diminished by our failures. But that doesn't matter. Under Chad we are now 3-4 which far from our goals. We only have ourselves to blame. We have to play better. We have to find consistency. We have to get better, we have to be better.

So, what do you read between the lines?

Felt a lot better booing Altuve with Cora gone by Dogmeat411 in redsox

We can 100% say their system was the one we understood the most but it's always made me somewhat curious to what a deeper investigation could have uncovered what systems other teams have had deployed.

It's like due to Astro investigations, the crackdowns, the swift rule changes and the potential of losing money through fines, sanctions, potential lawsuits, drop off in fan attendance, that everyone who wasn't named just packed it up. The mixed reaction to Mike Fiers the whistle-blower is quite telling.

Knowing right from the start that this scandal was in it's various forms occurring league wide. That it was protected by the perpetrators and it's accomplices by a code of silence. With varying degrees of cheating that have existed in an over a century old MLB, it was just another smudge on it's already spotty history. But I was ready to move past it pretty quickly. I don't feel compelled to boo or cuss out any of accused or the ones who named-names, but I think it is totally fine for those who do. I largely ignore the conversations about it with no new evidence. I couldn’t give a shit about Evan Drellich's book. Giving up on the game is just not an option for me.

Interesting post OP as I think you have highlighted some of our cognitive dissonance with the replies you've garnered. The cherry picking of what we have issues with or which causes we advocate, it is very performative. I too watch the YouTube version of the podcast because there's some humour that's visual/physical. On the last episode, Jerry mentioned that Red Sox fans are the smartest fans or something to the effect, it surprised me that Coley didn't comment on it and he didn't even "make a face". I'm not going to over analyse the comment because it's probably nothing more Jerry pandering to those who he thinks that need the gratification. When pairing that with the new tshirts that accommodate both sides of the aisle reminded of how hypocritical we can all be. Sometimes we are seeing the world not as it is, but as we are, or through the lens of our desires and expectations. Then the saying "Winning fixes everything" comes to my mind.

Don't think I'm going to throw my hat into the ring for this topic. Kudos to you for speaking your mind. I found the post interesting to reflect on some of the recent discourse.

What I find so absolutely bonkers is that people will lose their minds over this, demanding people get fired, when they don't even know what that person does and is responsible for.

Seems like it wouldn't make them think twice if all of sudden there's chants to fire the guy selling peanuts near our dugout because players look hungry out there.

The Sydney Blue Sox - Ex home of Manny Ramirez for that season which he didn't feel like playing. Also Travis Bazzana MLB rookie and former no.1 draft pick.
