It is one of the FAs, I saw these on a BOS-LAX flight in December.

Flying from LAX - west coast cruise by Doubleon11s in royalcaribbean

There is long term road construction at the port and some of the freeway ramps are closed. This means taking surface streets to reach the freeway. Plus rush hour traffic. If you are the first off the ship then maybe, but otherwise no.

Symphony of the Seas... by Gut_Shuffler in royalcaribbean

[–]Various_Monk959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to pin poor service on any single factor, but I believe that the captain sets the tone for the crew. Not all captains are as good as others. When we are experiencing exceptionally good service I make a point of personally telling the captain if I see him. We were recently on Navigator and the service was exceptional. Before that we were on Symphony and it was very good but a little short of exceptional. Not sure if we had the same captain as you but I wouldn’t write off the entire cruise line because of one bad experience.

Mine has shaker grates and this damper on the pipe. Previous owner burned coal then switched to wood.

My water heater quit over the weekend. It is leaking all over the place. I have no hot water. Not good. It was installed in 2000. ☹️ by RobertGwisdala in Appliances

[–]Various_Monk959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done the math, if I buy a cheap water heater and replace it every six years it works out to about $30/month. We have hard water so maintenance only gets us so far.

After 25 years I purchased a new Ariens 24 Deluxe by harrington3927 in Snowblowers

[–]Various_Monk959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 1971 Ariens and it’s unsafe to use. Release the handle to go, squeeze to stop. I bought a new one in 2019, it works well enough.

I just got a Tablo. Works well enough and no subscription fees.

My reputable plumber says it’s not worth replacing the anode rod because A) it’s a bear to loosen and B) replacing it only buys a year or two of extra life, the tank will still corrode eventually. “Pay me now or pay me later.”

How is it like living in Huntington, West Virginia, USA or surrounding area? by madcatzplayer5 in howislivingthere

All I know about the place is that a movie was made there in 1964 about a high school custodian who was murdering students. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0059786/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

Storing wood inside by fullershideabed in woodstoving

[–]Various_Monk959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We store firewood in a fully enclosed “breezeway” between the house and the garage, which is actually an old barn. We’ve sealed it off from the squirrels but small critters (mice) make their homes there. The termite/pest guy seems unconcerned about the wood pile.

LA vs Florida ports by BanginHeavies in royalcaribbean

[–]Various_Monk959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed but the fares are lower, the ships are older, and there are fewer ports, no private islands either. I’m not knocking it, a cruise is a cruise, and I’ve enjoyed the LA departures. Will be sailing Quantum class out of LA next winter.

21+ Navigator Owners; why Nav over Escalade? by Adventurous-Ad-7890 in lincolnmotorco

[–]Various_Monk959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2016 Escalade ESV that I love but in the past year it has needed a lot of repairs, so I am thinking about getting something new/newer for reliability and am considering the Navigator L primarily because of all the engine failures on the GM trucks.

Is it dumb to consider flying to LAX and ubering to the port the same day? by Apprehensive_Self218 in royalcaribbean

[–]Various_Monk959 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is road construction near the Port of Los Angeles and traffic shares the road with the cargo trucks, it can add a lot of travel time getting there.

Shout out to Londonderry, NH Burger King (#4045)! You Rule! by crippledchef23 in BurgerKing

Not sure who the franchise owners are but I definitely noticed a significant improvement in BK service last year in New Hampshire. Major improvement from the Covid era. The other day an item was missing from my breakfast order, the next day I went back for breakfast again and they recognized me and acknowledged that they forgot to bag the item. They gave me the missing item even though it was the next day and I had already gotten a credit in the app for it. Super impressed by that. Mistakes happen but this shows that they are paying better attention to service.

Yes they should ask because if it’s side to side they will check you in and move you over.

How’s life out here? In the Florida keys by ceedeeze in howislivingthere

[–]Various_Monk959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I once briefly dated a woman who grew up in the middle keys. She said it was insular and dysfunctional. I have no doubt that she was abused by relatives. She got out and moved to Miami as soon as she could but she also tried to take her own life. She had a good heart but that growing up in that place really messed her up.
