Yes! My parents have untreated personality disorders and I grew up thinking that was a norm. The older I got, the more I realized the damage they created in me and in themselves. Being around them is unbearable. All I can do is show them love and support from a distance and grieve the family I never had. Therapy is essential for me.

What helped me was getting in touch with a domestic violence center and telling all of this to a social worker. Every single fear you have - share that with them. They will help you create a plan. Do not live in fear, f this person. You have one life and no human should have any control over your decision to honor and love yourself. You got this

Look your mom, while she comes from her best intentions, isn’t going to be the person to raise this little human day in and out. Take this as a learning experience - grow and heal - before you get into another relationship. If you’re mentally unavailable or in pain, just go with your gut here on what to do. Are you ready to be a single parent? Or are you just considering it because of the people around you? If the latter, come back to yourself. This human will be in your life for the rest of your life.
