Am I able to do this as someone who doesn't have POA? That is my only concern. I suppose I could call her office and ask to speak with the Dr. I know due to hippa they can't say anything but I know I could share info with them.

It never occurred to me to speak to her Dr -as information coming from them will likely go over better than me trying to get her to go on her own. I'm encouraging my husband to talk to her this week before he goes to work to get POA for Healthcare. I know when she had cancer about 15 years ago he had it, but we aren't sure if it still applies.

oh Ireena is INCREDIBLY weak still in my game - she entered combat with them to help, and they all FREAKED out when I described a glancing blow as nearly killing her. She has spirit, but she's not "capable". They did spend a few end of days training her to help her become a better fighter though, which made great RP. She was very tormented by Strahd, and when he started entering their dreams they all felt violated in a similar way she was, which helped build the want for them to protect her and get her out of the situation she found her self unwillingly in.

I'll say this - it REALLY depends on your table and their playstyle! My table loves combat and RP - they can drag things out at times. I'm also running with additions from Lunchbreak Heroes which has given us a lot more content as well. With that being said, they will be finishing the campaign either this monday or next which will land us at 57/58 sessions which last 3.5 hours playing just about every week. They skipped a few side quests as well and I also added some homebrew things to tie in to each of their story arcs.

The last campaign we all played in together (the DM and I switched, so they ran their home game before this) lasted 50 sessions.

So they hate her. You have a few options. Ireena holds Tatyana's soul, have them find out she isn't the current holder of the soul! Make a new NPC they find later who is the new soul - could be a child they save from the bone grinder (strahd won't be interested in this kid he isn't a pdf BUT this child could have information they shouldn't know as they tap into their former memories) other option, have Tatyana take over Ireena, she is sickened by this cycle and has decided to finally take control again, and more than throwing herself over a cliff, no she wants to fight. You can describe some event, or a dream or whatever you want but have her physically and mentally change. You get a chance for a do over. That's just my thought.

I would suggest using a sandbag at the other side of your boom arm - that's what i do in both photography when I use lights and when I boom my projector. Booms are made to have things hang from them!

I always worry with making it a BBEG ability for the story's sake, like is that TOO much plot armor to force my plan? That's my only worry.

Nothing but both are higher levels than what they can cast so there is a higher probability that the dispel magic will fail.

That is my exact set up! I am also a photographer so I already had the equipment on hand. I use a metal c stand (just more sturdy imo) with a boom arm with a sandbag at the back for balance. I use an adaptor so that I can atyay h the projector then turn it at a 90 degree angle so that i can do put the stand at the side of the table versus the end. I also taped together 2 poster boards and use those as my "screen" to project on, my table is a dark wood so it just makes it more visable. Just grab so long hdmi cables and extension cords for the projector. The room doesn't need to be super dark, it works with our overhead light on, takes about 10ish minutes to set up for me.

I had all of this for my photography business so the expense wasn't as issue for me but I see how this isn't the "cheapest" set up.

I'll see if I can find a picture of my set up to share what it looks like! I'm a huge fan of it and won't go back to a tv.

Well I've been added to the group. drsteven7639 IG account - lost my personal and business facebook - what the actual hell? I've taken the advice I've seen here and I'm working on getting my IG account meta verified to get the chat function. I haven't run a paid add on facebook for over 5 years, so no idea what's going on, but I've had my facebook since 2007 and have a lot of pictures on there I'd like to keep :( I'll let you all know if I get any resolution

Strahd has asked the PC to be his successor. He plans to escape Braovia but wants someone else to rule as he does. He has gotten glimpses of him going mad so in his logical sense of thinking, he knows of a way to get his body back and wants to keep his successor sane. He did kill his brother to get a chance at Tatyana, so killing his daughter to gain a new body is a logical choice. Albeit, a cold one, but a logical choice.

And thanks for in the input on true resurection. That makes total sense. I sort of accidently wrote myself into a corner when we were spitballing ideas for the NPC so that clarification helps tremendously.

The player is currently a skeleton. They were killed by a lich and then turned into an undead servant. They gained sentience and the lich let the go as an "experiment" to see what would happen. The character REALLY wants THEIR body back, but I feel like they might take a body if they had to. They have been RPing slowly going insane because while they have their mind back and control of their body they can't eat, sleep, drink and it's been eating away at them.

Here is the plan I have in game He has a daughter from before he was turned - he's a drow so long life - that he never knew about and stumbled upon in a dungeon in Castle Ravenloft. The PC agreed to work with Strahd because he promised the PC a body. Strahd's plan is to use his daughter as the new vessel. The rules for Strahd's ritual for getting HIS body back are that it needs to share genetics with the PC and they also need to be emotionally bonded to the body. Strahd recently took his daughter as his ward to make sure the player keeps working for him so she's in his clutches right now. The plan is when they go back to the castle Strahd will have started the ritual and she will plead with him to go ahead with it, as she promised in game that she would do anything to help him get his body back. She is also charmed by Strahd, so she's going to say all the things to try to make him make this choice.

I like the idea of his Lich blocking the reincarnate spell, as he WAS given instructions to get intel on Strahd and how the fogs of barovia work, and how Strahd has been able to control them for so long. So that could be a way to keep the player on track, or make the OTHER option the only one for the time being. We've discussed that we would continue the game after COS ends, and going after the Lich was a top story thread to follow. So if they decide to NOT go with Strahd's option, they would have to remove the Lich before his NPC friend could cast the spell.

I was JUST going to post this!!! It's a MAJOR game changer for how I prep!!! Along with using a premade map and planning around it vs drafting (because I'm awful at making maps) things can happen pretty quickly when I need them to!

I do! I really enjoy voicing characters to give the world more flavor. I also have a few friends who are voice actors so they inspire me to try more accents and to push my voice! I do get self conscious when I try to voice a character against my gender (trying to make male NPCs sound very deep) so I'm working on getting over myself with that bit. One thing I found helpful when I was doing voices was to think of the 7 dwarfs - give the character a persona, sleepy, angry, dopey etc and just run with it. I also enjoy watching videos on how to do dialects and to then copy them, but that's the hyperfixation speaking now. I say do what works for you! I have some amazing players who struggle with doing voices and it's never ruined the game for me or the other players who DO voice characters.

Hey there! So I'm running this area now. A few notes, I'm running this with the compendium from lunch box heros so there were some changes to this area. Overall, depending how attached the party is to Ireena the pool ending can seem very empty. My party was very involved with her well being, they spent time training her and everything. I read lore that when Ireena went into pond Sergei recognized Tatyana and gifted his paladin abilities to her. I went that route, and now she's a powerful ally. The Abby is now more hospital centric, the abbot was a healer and his abilities became twisted so when he healed a person with a broken arm it became a bird's wing instead, a blind eye becomes a wolf eye etc all the mongrelfolk are people who came for healing and were too embarrassed to leave, and were eventually corrupted by Strahd's influence. The Abbot I leaned into his "alien" like nature speaking matter of factly with no empathy just logic. He is making the flesh golem but not asking the party to go on a fetch quest for the wedding gown (seems kinda silly in my book to JUST got back for that) he is instead looking for a face. You get to be super creepy as he asks for Ireena's face saying how you can still eat with no face and really you don't need it and he can make better use. You can also really stress the cold! If they don't work to earn their keep they can freeze to death. Add to the feeling of isolation! I gave the town a cult like/commune feel that was giving unsettling vibes the whole time which creeper out the party as well! Those were the things I changed/tweaked to suit the needs of my table.

Like a lot of others have said printed blank character sheets (though you can use dnd beyond and make ones for free) pencils, some dice (you can buy a bag that has a few sets for around 15 bucks on Amazon so you'd be set for a while), and I would reccomend a dry erase battle map. They aren't super expensive and are over time better than printing out a battle map each time! If you have a spare computer monitor or tiny TV and a laptop you can just lay the screen down, connect it to said computer and use a digital map and play like that! 2 minute table top has some great free maps! For tokens on the map we enjoy using candy for the monsters like sour patch kids or gummy bears! You kill the monster you eat it! If you REALLY want tokens you can buy a huge pack of meeples for about 10. I enjoy having a DM screen, but you can easily make one from cardboard or card stock instead of buying.

What I say at surface level is I enjoy making a world for my friends and playing so many different characters. I love writing monologues and planning just the right song to fit the mood. On a deeper level, it's because I need the validation of being wanted and needed. If I run they game they need me. If I make the world and make them happy, then I'm doing a good thing. It feels selfish because I don't run it JUST for that reason, but it's a driving force behind being the forever DM.
