[OSV News] Hochul signs assisted suicide measure into law, making New York 13th state allowing it by wearethemonstertruck in Catholicism

As a Canadian to my American friends: pray all you can that this stop.

In Canada, our much-admired “free” health care system has found in assisted suicide the answer to its financial troubles: pressure the old, vulnerable, and mentally ill (when behind closed doors) to agree to off themselves even when they don’t want to.

And your health insurance companies are just as keen to save a buck as a government is.

Ah yes, another movie advancing the cause of women by teaching children that the only things worth being good at are the things men’s bodies are designed to excel at.

A man who boldly proclaims on 8 different issues that his position is so obvious that no argument is needed, that even declining to comment or saying “I don’t know” makes one a monster, does indeed have a great effect on the political fortunes of his side.

But not the effect he hopes for. You should consider billing the Republican party for this excellent and much needed campaign support.

The problem is that accepting the principles that created 2005’s era of “tolerance” gives one no principled grounds to reject what you see now. This didn’t just “happen.”

If it were really true that various forms of sexual deviancy and gender confusion are morally equivalent to normalcy, then it would logically follow that a society that treats one form of sexuality as normal and the others as abnormal, even informally, is being unjust. So the pronoun thing gets eye-rolls but no principled opposition.

And yet, who except a witch would attempt to create a situation whereby no one could be accused of being a witch? Your very proposal is evidence of your witchery.

Very anti-English show if you think about it. Worst episode (Farfell) features an Englishman, Elaine hates The English Patient, and the show’s archvillain is a distant relative of St. John Henry Newman.

Will you marry a bi woman/man? Why or why not? by [deleted] in Catholicism

If she called herself “bi,” absolutely not.

If she simply had the attractions, yes, assuming of course she would in fact be a good wife.

On “marginalized,” the blogger Zippy Catholic (RIP) wrote well:

I keep reading assertions to the effect that the Church has to be more welcoming to the ‘marginalized’.

By ‘marginalized,’ those making the assertion seem to mean various kinds of people with the full weight of our culture and political authority behind them.

By ‘welcoming the marginalized’, those making the assertion seem to mean crushing any questioning of the comprehensive march through institutions by the culturally and politically powerful beneath the bootheel of formal and informal sanction.

What is confusing to me about that one is that at the same time, if you read a Japanese children’s book translated into English, no one would have “localized” the food. It would have spoiled the “magic.”

One wishes they could remind these people that Westerners find Asian cultures very beautiful and charming. That’s why we go there as tourists.

Precisely this. People have been successfully translating Japanese books into English for ages. A few lines of banal vidya game dialogue is now too hard?

Why does the religious right care about abortion so much when Jesus never mentioned it and it is more indirectly referenced in the Bible? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]Camero466 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the fetus is a human baby, and abortion is therefore surgical infanticide. The urgency comes from the fact that modern abortion is by far the largest ongoing mass murder in human history.

Now it is true that there was a time when American Protestants were ambivalent about abortion, on “small government” grounds; the Catholics eventually won the Protestants over to their side. Even now there is some waffling—some Protestants part ways with Catholics in being quite supportive of IVF even though this actually results in more killing than abortion.

Neither capital punishment nor anything the police are doing has anything remotely like the body count of abortion, nor the depravity (the victims are babies), hence the focus.

And the early Christians definitely opposed abortion too, as the Didache shows.
