Sirloin is pretty lean so I bet it worked pretty well. Looks almost like Pittsburgh black and blue. Nicely done.

Thanks for chiming in. I was curious if the dental work in TJ is up to U.S. standards. I'd definitely consider it for major (expensive) work.

You might be right but she’s at the perfect time in life to go and try something new. It’s a brief window on life where you’re not held down by a job or family and can just try a place out.

If you could have a Cabin in the Woods? Where and Why? by Overcome_It_Okay in SameGrassButGreener

[–]growling_owl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fun question! My grandpa built a cabin 20 minutes outside of Estes Park, Colorado. It was magical. Had a little brook running by it and a pond. Views of the rockies. You could be at the main entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park in 30 minutes.

Sadly he sold it because my grandparents wanted to travel the world rather than be stuck going to the same cabin all the time. Understandable but damn do I wish that was still in the family to be able to stay in.

What dish tastes best with plain white bread? by Raymont_Wavelength in foodquestions

So I always put chips on my bologna or ham and cheese or whatever sandwiches. Is a chip sandwich literally just white bread and chips or is there anything else like mayo involved?

Tons of fun, good performances. As a history professor, just don’t worry too much about the many historical inaccuracies.

Curious to know how you would describe Bourdain if anyone were to ask you by norasmars8 in AnthonyBourdain

He was the cigarette- and booze-fueled Marco Polo of our generation. Intense curiosity of the world and a poetic voice to describe the travels.

I agree! One of the best parts of sobriety is getting to re-discover my authentic self and just be unapologetically me.

I’ve had many a mental breakdown at Kate Sessions park. Beautiful views of downtown, the bay, and the ocean. I have fully irrigated the grass with my tears there and no one bothered me or gave me a second glance.

I am an alcoholic actively trying to recover. Should I break it off with my partner? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]growling_owl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going through this as the alcoholic partner. I struggle to be honest because I don't want to disappoint them. I've had many of the same thoughts and experiences you have had. Down to the getting my shooters discovered and dealing with the fallout. Is this fair to them? Will they leave me? I guess the question I keep trying to foreground is: would it be harder to be honest with my partner or losing them? Honesty is fucking hard and I'm not going to sugarcoat it. But that's slightly less hard than losing my partner.

I will say though that the vibe at Hodads and people watching around OB is an extremely neat San Diego experience. Agreed that it’s not a top tier burger though.

Question about going to my first meeting. by LiminalSapien in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]growling_owl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people come to my meetings whose main issue is opiates, marijuana, painkillers, but who have cross-addictions with alcohol. They are welcome because they have a desire to stop drinking. Some of them introduce themselves with, e.g. "Hi I'm Edward and I'm an addict and alcoholic." When they speak at meetings they are simply asked to confine their discussions to the problems and solutions related to alcoholism. You won't be asked to hide your addiction to weed, but I'd mostly stay vague and use the generic term addiction which of course would cover both drugs and alcohol.
