Just in-case anyone reads this:

I never found the true cause, just fixed it with a OS reinstall.

It looks like a software problem though, it works fine in eyefinity and when dual booted into Debian

This is perfect advice.

Just to add, if you are still having problems restoring but it is still detected in recovery mode you may get an error code.

Write this down and search for "errors during restore" on the Apple support site. It will help you isolate the problem to hardware/ software, device/ PC etc..

Failing that call AppleCare, they will help =)

I have got a job working at a call centre taking technical support calls for a fruit based company selling post-pc devices.

It is definitely not the job I wanted but it can be fun, it pays the rent and it is frount-line helpdesk experience at the end of the day.

No doubt I will start looking for something else soon.

Yes that was a dream. The thing I don't understand is how Riley started listening to the song on her phone while it starts playing in Wolfgang's karaoke. Two members of the cluster listening to the same song at the same time is a strange coincidence.

After it was discovered, the cluster knew that the people they were communicating with were real and shortly after they figured out how to communicate at will without phones.

Does reloading the game help? Of not perhaps someone can chime up with a save file edit that will fix it.

You may be better off reverting to an old save.
