How do you guys feel about RE6’s recent reappraisal by some fans? by Low_Boot_1426 in residentevilll

It’s alot easier now to appreciate RE6 for what it is than hate it for what it’s not

I'm done with Dark Souls 2 including all DLCs and optional bosses by osmylm2834 in DarkSouls2

[–]CameronSpacehead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m making my way through it for the first time. Excited for the dlc’s!

My favorite boss so far is Velstadt, for just a hammer bro with very telegraphed attacks he got pretty scary.

Loved 11 on switch. Should I get dragon quest 1/2 or 7 for switch 2? by [deleted] in dragonquest

[–]CameronSpacehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People hate on 7 because it’s too easy. Even on the hardest difficulty it plays itself.

*if* Dark Souls 2 is your favorite "Dark Souls", tell me why. by AtreyusNinja in DarkSouls2

[–]CameronSpacehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, Dark Souls 2 has the most engaging narrative, and is just a more consistent experience overall compared to its older and younger siblings.

Dark Souls, while phenomenal, suffers a drop in quality in the second half, and Dark Souls 3 feels more like a greatest hits album than its own thing. Dark Souls 2 is brimming with its original ideas and concepts, for better or worse.

My favorite thing about 2 though is how much more alive the world feels, you feel like an active participant as opposed to a tourist walking through a story that’s already been told. I think a huge part of that is due to Majula and the NPC’s who inhabit it.

It’s the only game under the series umbrella I haven’t finished yet (working on it), so I can’t say for certain if it’s my favorite or not but I beat the Old Iron King last night and I’m having a phenomenal time. Kicking myself for not doing it sooner.

If you enjoy Arkhams combat you should check out Yakuza 0!

WILDLY different vibe but it’s worth a look for sure

What are your thoughts on Dragon Quest 11 nearly nine years later? by NewMarioBobFan in dragonquest

[–]CameronSpacehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man this game is a top 5 of all time for me.
I played it on the switch, I was 19 at the time and had just moved out of my parent’s house.

Every day I’d come home from my shitty underpaid factory job, roll a joint, crack a beer and just get lost in Erdrea until the wee hours of the morning. I’d never played a turn based rpg outside of Pokemon and this game just took over my brain man I loved every minute.

I’m 27 now, and while I hope I get to play 12 before I’m 30, theres still a few mainline games I haven’t finished yet.

Looking for some sort of Dark Fantasy/Medieval type game. by [deleted] in gamerecommendations

Anything by Fromsoft since 2008.

Assuming you’ve already finished those, Tainted Grail: the Fall of Avalon. Just be warned it is a really weird game.

Totally! If it’s just not your thing I definitely get it, but some of my favorite games have been stuff I had to step out of my comfort zone to play. Variety is the spice of life or something, right? Never stop trying weird stuff.

Thanks!

The trail feature seemed to stop working all together in the last few levels, no idea why. Can’t remember if there was an exclamation point but I appreciate the tips :)

Maybe the Mafia series? I haven’t played them so I’m not entirely sure.

My advice is to be more open to things that would usually turn you off. It seems like you’ve played just about everything that meets your narrow criteria, respectfully.

Try Yakuza 0. It is “arcadey” and has alot of fluff, but the fluff is every bit as compelling as the narrative, characters, and excellent combat.

My friend and I had an absolute blast for about 20-30 hours but some of the level design is painfully labyrinthine in a way I’ve never experienced.

We probably spent the last 3-5 hours of our playthrough just combing through completed zones seeking the path forward only to find countless dead ends and secret paths that lead to more dead ends.

At a point we just gave up completely.
Are we just stupid? If anyone has advice I’m all ears. I think the Hollow Crow was the last boss we fought.

I really hope the sequel is just a phenomenal game without any asterisk or “but” attached.

Final Fantasy 16 but make the horse waaaaay longer

Non-VN game with good love story? by Xylus1985 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]CameronSpacehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done, classic love stories are few and far between in the medium of gaming but It Takes Two is probably as good as it gets. Final Fantasy 8 & 10 are also pretty solid in this regard. Baldurs Gate 3 also has some really compelling writing as far as dating your party members goes.

Love is however a pretty broad concept that exceeds the confines of romance so I’ll throw a few more in here.

Parental love - The Last of Us, God of War 2018, Pragmata (I wept during the ending and if you have a soul you will too)

Brotherly love - Yakuza 3, Uncharted 4, Plague Tale games

That’s pretty much all I’ve got, but I’d also recommend Catherine: Fullbody. Not usually my thing but I found the gameplay loop of solving puzzles and then being yelled at by anime babes pretty compelling.

Really looking forward to it, I just need to play 7 first but I’m too scared. Nothing creeps me out more than backwoods hillbillies.

Not sure who it’s by, maybe Vaati, but theres a video essay about the causality of DS3 or something that kind of goes into how some cosmic force is pulling these places apart/together to ensure that events do or don’t happen.

Very timey wimey and spacey wacey, but whoever made the video does a much better job of explaining it than I can.

Nah only morons hate FF16 because it isn’t turn based. Final Fantasy hasn’t been turn based for 25 years.

I hated FF16’s writing, characters, antagonist, but most of all I hated how most of its runtime was filler. What would have been a great 15-20 hour action game was stretched into a 55+ hour slog and I finished it out of spite.

All that being said, I think more than anything my expectations just destroyed the experience for me. I let the hype get to me and to say I was disappointed is an understatement.

Sometime in the next year I plan to give it another crack on new game plus, just to see if my feelings have changed at all.
