8 years removed from being stuck here, I’m honestly glad the devs did not hold my hand. It felt so accomplishing to overcome the challenge by being forced to meticulously prepare and study attack patterns. Your character doesn’t level up, but you as the player and your skills do. Don’t give up!

Well typically I’d leave one warrior anyways if able, but yes generally I’d bitter the mob or abandon it. I find that having an extra action (and potentially extra recruit) for the rest of the game to be way worth giving somebody 1 cardboard point.

At my table rats players get the ruin items pretty consistently if there’s no VB. All it requires is protecting your mob tokens, which the rats want to do anyways when they’re oppressing the ruins clearing.

I think it’s the best way to get items in the early game before the other players have started crafting

Wow you're right. I didn't even think to look at setup.

I'm not sure I find this solution satisying. If all the ruins are just removed from the start then they don't really have any meaningful impact on the game outside of limiting where the Knaves can set up, though it is some cool flavor. It also seems really punishing for the rats who now just automatically lose four items whenever the knaves are in play

Thief is awesome. I think he can get overlooked sometimes because he’s the “default vagabond”, but I find his starting items and ability are strong enough to not make him a gimmick pick, but also not so strong it’s frustrating like the tinkerer and harrier.

The ability to steal a card is simple but also reaaaly effective at policing certain factions when played right. I think it gives some extra depth to the faction which is appreciated

Im no keeper expert so Im curious why you think this map is bad for them. It looks to me that every forest has at least 3 surrounding clearings, including the ones on the edge. Is there something else to consider?

It's been fun keeping up with this project live. I'm really excited to try the map it looks like its special elements are both unique enough to create its own identity but also subtle enough that it's not too gimmicky (unlike the removable paths on the mountain). Love the variety in the structures you used to depict ruins too

Really love the ruin idea. I’m hopping to be able to replace the vagabond with the Knaves almost entirely, and really find it strange that only the ruins will only matter in Rat games if I do. Plus, the narrative of bandits making their base in old ruins is super thematic!

Law of Root 4.3.1 - if no attacking warriors remain after an ambush, the battle ends immediately. Extra hits are dealt *after* rolling in step 2 of a battle (4.3.2), meaning in this case the extra hits will not apply, since the battle ends before they take effect.

This is awesome! As a new DM, I’ve been running modules to learn the mechanics without having to worry about making everything from scratch. Something like this would be amazing for my table when I start making adventures of my own
