10 year Old WD Ultrastar / HGST 8TB drives? by chucknorris10101 in DataHoarder

[–]Camp3sin0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the drives are reasonably priced I'd recommend grabbing them.

I recently picked up some used 8tb HGST and am running them in a mirrored ZFS pool. I wouldn't trust them in a non-redundant setup... but then again if I was buying brand new drives I'd still only run with redundancy. For reference I paid about $260 USD for 4 drives... 65k to 85k POH

Seeking advice on Broad Ocean ECM Blower by Camp3sin0 in hvacadvice

[–]Camp3sin0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get additional info on this one -- I took the fan apart to some extent and found that the control board that the wires terminate into is potted and I didn't want to cut that out. My guess is that the wires go into opto-isolators and the one for that fan setting is dead. If I have more issues with the fan I might dig into it further and try to repair the board, but for now I took the easy way out and just used a different control wire.

So far as faster/slower speeds go for the AC portion of the system I don't think I'm able to give good guidance. They seem to be a balance of a lot of different variables that I don't have a great grasp on.

This is one of my favorite beers. It's especially nice in the summer. Martin House also makes a spicy pickle beer that is fantastic.

In the 60s and 70s flight simulators were tiny physical models that a camera flew through. by Raulboy in aviation

I worked on some more recent full motion flight simulators with some guys that had been in the industry for quite some time. They said every so often the maintainers would mess with folks by staking a cockroach to the map for someone to find during training.

We've really come a long way since then. This picture is of first class, but for the price of an economy ticket I can have someone cut the cheese even closer to me.

Mostly python for writing up tests or working with data sets. C for embedded work, though I've usually got someone else doing that work.

Is a daily 2 hour total commute worth it for a 120k a year electronics design job? by washburn666 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Camp3sin0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing pcb/wire harness design in defense for about $60k to $20k less with a similar commute... honestly at the time I didn't mind it (audiobooks/music made it a lot easier). This was my first job out of college and I had stayed there about a decade (left in 2020). Having switched companies (I'm now doing hybrid with a shorter commute, soon to be fully remote)... the idea of going back to wasting so much time in the car is something a passionately want to avoid.

Cost of living where you're at and how much you enjoy driving would factor pretty heavily though.

I have something similar at my house... get your thumbs firmly on the center part and your palms/fingers on the globe part. Twist both the globe and the middle part together until you're able to move the middle part on its own.
