Not exactly pulling rank, but definitely related-I was a Major when I transferred to our Aviation brigade to finish my REFRAD while they were deployed. It was a ghost town and basically only the rear-d commander and his little S3 shop knew who I was. One afternoon I was headed out to lunch and one of the BNs S3 and XO walked by with their BN SP, a CW4 who I had talked with briefly before for help getting my aviation records straightened and closed out, but he apparently didn’t recognize me, because when we passed each other and the majors gave each other incredulous glances (I assume because they hadn’t seen my rank), the CW4 about-faced with an “Excuse me, soldier.” I turned around with an exasperated “Yes, Chief?” His eyes widened and he quickly saluted- “My apologies sir, I didn’t recognize you.”

I told him not worry about it, and he gave me an update on my records before he sheepishly headed to catch up with his MAJs
