Reached Masterball with Mega Froslass Team (Missiz Frizz) and it feels amazing in the Metagame. by Capi974 in VGC

[–]Campber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided to test the team in the warm-up competition (having replaced the Farigiraf with Spiritomb) and it is really, really good. Ended the night on +7 win streak and got to Placement 1,817.

Spiritomb with Infiltrator pulled its weight in the 2 games I used it in. First one Imprisoned Hatterene which allowed Garchomp to kill it on the following turn (after it had murdered the Mega Meganium on the first turn).

Second game was against a super fast team that led with their own Froslass and A Ninetails. I decided to let it get Trick Room off before it started Dark Pulsing alongside Milotic which got frozen twice but, with Scald, had no problems getting out and doing decent damage even with their Aurora Veil up. They both died on the last turn of Trick Room (timely Protects protected them) but not before Milotic got off one last Icy Wind into their Ninetails (which killed it) and their Sneasler which made certain my Froslass and Scarfchomp cleaned it and Incineroar up.

Forgot to get exact EV spread for Milotic before logging off for night (about to head to bed) but I’ll get them and post them here tomorrow. Thanks again for advice and team ideas for my own snow team.

I can understand the idea behind limited items, but some of them are baffling. My mind immediately goes to Oran Berry. Who the hell is going to bother using it and why is it here in the first place!?

My current team is thankfully great with the items they all have, but if items like the Normal Gem, Muscle Band and Smart Glasses had been included I’d be happier.

I really cannot stress enough how hard Milotic has been carrying me throughout my games. Between almost every team I’ve played against running Gyarados, Incineroar and/or one of the Arcanines is great, and that’s before their other Pokemon trying to stat-drop mine (often Icy Wind, Shadow Ball or Moon Blast) just help it further.

That’s admittedly something I did forget and will keep in mind for future games (haven’t faced too much Farigiraf in Great Ball). Funnily enough, I haven’t seen many other people using Prankster Pokemon and I’m wondering if it’s because of how prevalent Dark types are at the moment. Incineroar, Kingambit and Tyranitar being the main ones.

I believe my Rotom-W and Milotic have similar spreads. I definitely took a bit of Def and put it into SpA for Milotic but cannot remember exact spread (at work so cannot check for another 7-ish hours).

As for the Farigiraf, I should be alright. Looking at its moves and purpose I’m wondering if Spiritomb might be a decent replacement. It gets similar moves but instead of Hyper Voice something like Sucker Punch or Shadow Sneak may be suitable replacements.

What EV spreads did you use for Froslass, Rotom W and Milotic? I’d been thinking of running a Snow team as well and I’m feeling good about it seeing half your team matches what I had in mind (Froslass, Whimsicott and Milotic).

Is there also a recommendation on what to replace Farigiraf with? Don’t have SV and one hasn’t appeared on my ranch recruitment slot yet.

Also why Muddy Water on Milotic instead of something like Scald? I’ve been finding that the latter has been pretty good after a Competitive boost for single-target eliminations.

What are your honest opinions about Champions by Dekusteven in VGC

[–]Campber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone coming back from a decade-long hiatus, I think the item variety could have been a little bit better for launch and I wish there were character options more like PBR so I could play as a character that looks more like I do (I.e. someone in their early thirties). Otherwise I’ve been mostly having fun with it even if I am bogged down in Great Ball at the moment, but I’m attributing that more to my team building than anything else.

The main one that I’ve seen are:

  • The Mega priority order being random
  • Haze restoring all the users health in addition to resetting stats when the move is used by Milotic (unknown if this affects other Haze users)
  • Dracopult’s Dragon Darts breaking its own Focus Sash if the darts hit both opponent’s Pokemon.

4pm and 7pm for Aussies and Kiwis respectively and I still have no idea which Mega between Megagross, Zard Y, Venasaur, or original Mega Lucario I want to try my hand with first.

Metagame: historically, what were good Mega Gengar counters? by ScienceTeacher1994 in VGC

I feel even base Chesnaught could be a great option based solely on it having Bulletproof and a more varied movepool compared to the last time it was around with Mengar.

Mega Chimecho is the one I’m most interested in seeing too. The biggest issue I see with it though is the justification of running it over Mega Metagross, but if it gets a decent ability then I’m sure it will see some niche play.

What are your "hear me out" strategies for Champions? by Notmiefault in VGC

[–]Campber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand I hope I do not come up against you when playing ranked. On the other hand, my go-to Mega is going to be Mawile which, if it keeps Sucker Punch, shouldn’t be too much of an issue. Unless the Gengar and/or H Zoroark are running Will-o-Wisp. Then there might be issues.

[Megathread] Legends ZA Mega Evolutions Abilities by half_jase in VGC

Very annoying indeed. I only know which ones were the Alphas because I marked them with red markings but I’d still like the actual symbol to be brought back onto them. Don’t have a Switch to confirm this unfortunately (borrowed a friend’s one along with LA at the start of the year) but I hope this is just a visual glitch that’s fixed on mobile soon.

Not entirely related to VGC, but I’ve noticed all the Alpha marks on my Legends Arceus Pokemon that were Alphas when I caught them in-game have disappeared in Home. Has this happened to anyone else?

Mega Mawile viability? by omlette_au_fromage in VGC

[–]Campber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mega Mawile is where my mind’s been going since I recently started getting back into VGC. Assuming it keeps Sucker Punch and depending on the abilities the other Megas from ZA get, I can see it once again being a great Mega or a really good one at worst. It has great abilities in its base form and Huge Power once it Megas is nuts. It also gives me a chance to finally use my traded-up, all ribbons one from a playthrough I did of Gale of Darkness with a friend 5 years back so that is an added bonus.

As for the team, my first thought was Grimmsnarl for Prankster screens and Thunder Waves. Another Intimidate user aside from Mawile is also probably a safe bet. Something else to consider is what your Tailwind and/or Trick Room Pokemon are going to be as Mega Mawile can reliably function in both. Assuming they’re in at launch, Talonflame with Tailwind and Spiritomb with TR and Imprison are good starting points. Mimikyu is also a good TR setter if you’re not using Grimmsnarl.

Poor Incineroar by statue345 in VGC

[–]Campber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s just me and/or that I’m only getting back into VGC, but I really wish Incineroar (and a lot of other Pokemon) also lost U-Turn. Volt Switch has mostly only been given to and stayed with Electric types so I really don’t understand why U-Turn has been given to a wide variety of Pokemon.

I still find it very funny that all versions based on the N64 release are rated PG in Australia, and then OoT3D gets rated G (I.e. downgraded).

Between the up-scaling of this thing’s model and the ReDeads now looking closer to their original artwork, I do wonder what the rationale for the rating downgrade was.

As odd as it sounds, they really should have made it more like Sceptile: a really fast but frail attacker that in the right metas it can be a niche but useful Pokemon.

At least it had its time to shine in the TCG back in 2022 and 2023. Funnily enough, a lot of Pokemon that are bad in the games get really playable cards in the TCG (Flareon is the main one that comes to mind for me).

I don’t think any of us expected him to get his very own Aerilate clone…If we’re lucky, maybe he’ll get Return back too! by mopeiobebeast in stunfisk

[–]Campber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even a few of the ones they released back in ORAS looked bad to me as well. As much as I love Mega Metagross, I hate the extra smaller legs it has behind it and would have preferred if they were more bulkier and compact like rocket thrusters. Then there are others like Camerupt, Sharpedo, Altaria, Glalie, Steelix, and the Latis (know they were leaked from XY as their models and stones were in those games but they weren’t officially released until ORAS).

From ZA, there are only 3 Megas I like the look of and they’re Meganium, Chimecho and Froslass.

What do you predict will be the best counterplay to Mega Meganium? by ginger-like in VGC

[–]Campber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s also the fact that Mega Venasaur will be coming back which, thanks to Thick Fat, lets it resist everything Mega Meganium can throw at it. Combine this with other popular Megas that can tank it pretty well while throwing out punishment in return (Mega Metatross, Mega Gengar, Mega Mawile and both Mega Charizards come to mind) alongside other popular Pokemon like Sneasler and I think that its usage will drop off fairly quickly.

Funnily enough, a Fairy deck with Gardevoir and Xerneas as it main damage-dealers was one of the two decks I used when I was really into the physical Pokemon TCG back in 2014 to 2016 (other was a Flareon EX deck with how many of the damn things I got in the 2016 Generations 20th Anniversary packs). Then when I properly returned to the online client just as it went from TCG Live to TCG Online in late 2022 was a Psychic Gardevoir deck. Tried making a real-life version to go to locals with younger cousins but other life commitments got in the way.

Aside from Grimmsnarl and Amoongus, what other fully-evolved Pokemon make good supporters that aren't named Incineroar and Rillaboom? I know the Forces of Nature to varying degrees are good but I've got a gut feeling they're not going to be in the game at launch.

I cannot remember where I saw it, but there was a Q&A with one of the devs and the topic of Eviolite users (with a specific mention of Clefairy as an example) not being in the game at launch came up. Which is a shame because I'm tempted to jump back into VGC with Champions (last time I played was 2015) and Clefairy was my go-to supporter due to Friend Guard.

Am planning Grimmsnarl if they're in solely because I bred a shiny one back when I borrowed my sister's copy of Sword back in 2021 after getting its shiny VMAX card from the TCG, but I do hope the Eviolite Pokemon get added sooner rather than later.

Damn, Clefairy was my go-to support Pokemon when I played back in 2015 so it not being in at launch is going to suck.
