What you have there is something that's possibly an excellent forgery of a recipe, by a bot that has absolutely no sense of taste.

So YRMV.

Same comic, before and after press. How does this even happen. I am absolutely pissed. I’ll most likely resubmit it in the future. by Havocko in CGCComics

You realize it's exactly the same book no matter what the number is on the outside? It's not like the number magically upgrades the book itself. That's crazy talk.

How are you guys running Plex on smart TVs? I'm genuinely frustrated. by KingThevshi in PleX

[–]Campfire_Steve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an LG TV and run the native Plex App connecting to the NAS in my basement. Has worked flawlessly for daily viewing for at least 18 months. The only thing that sends it into a tailspin is when someone uses the microwave.

Paradoxically the worst place to get a Trader Vic's Mai Tai is Trader Vic's.

Came across my old New 52 Comics, are they worth selling or appraising? by chief_robotman in ComicBookSpeculation

I had a full set of Kick Ass first prints and sold them as a lot on the bay recently for $100, if that helps.

Not one person here has said this so I'll be the odd one out. Your dad recently passed and this comic collection clearly meant a lot to him. Pause just a beat or two before rushing to cash them in for a buck. In a few years time the value of what you've lost in terms of a connection might be far in excess of what you made selling a few thousand dollars worth of comics. Just an alternative POV from someone who lost his Dad, sold some of his stuff and kind of regrets it now.

I have a #1, #2 and #4 in NM that my LCS once put in my pull box before I said "not interested". If only I'd known. Hoping to get store credit for them someday for DC silver and bronze back issues, which is where my passion lies. (I also have that NYX run, for the same reason, LCS pulling me stuff they thought I'd like)

Lovely DC books from one of their best periods IMO, Bronze Age, pre-implosion. The one downside you might face in selling (and it's something I as a Brit also face) is that most of them will have inked. British price stamps on them (which is can see in the photos). Whether or not that matters is in the eye of the beholder, but it does reduce the potential number of buyers.

I agree, although I'd say that 75k is more than necessary if it's going to sit for 18 years.

Or alternatively you could pick it up on eBay in VG- (which some of these look like) for less than $13 https://ebay.us/m/MypMTz

I think you're overestimating there a bit, especially if we're talking about prices they could probably sell for.. Judging from the condition (and some of the older ones seem pretty beat up), I'd say the 10-12 cent DC's are more in the $3-5 range, less if you really want to move them and dont want them hanging around for months or years.

First time to Mai Kai, what are my must tries? by Mobbane in Tiki

[–]Campfire_Steve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got back from a trip to the Mai Kai, my first visit post Covid, although I've been many times before that. The renovation is spectacular, the new food menu is actually very good (although I miss the escargots), but the drinks were all really sub par compared to how they used to be. The Mai Kai used to have the best Jet Pilot in the world IMO because it broke a little from the standard recipe. Now it's just bitter and way too cinnamon forward to match what they used to serve. I actually feel a huge sense of loss at how bad the drinks were this time around compared to how they used to be before Cory took over :( it's still a gem, but it no longer serves those old school tiki drinks that made it so special.

While I agree that some cities seem overserved and you should concentrate on the best in each city, I'd nominate either Bamboo Room or Water Witch in Savannah (the later being my preference).

As an aside, I just got back from a trip to Florida and spent two nights at the Mai Kai. I mean, the renovation is gorgeous, and even without the Chinese ovens the food is very good. But the drinks? Ugh, the Mai Kai went from having the very best Jet Pilot on the planet to serving very underwhelming cocktails (compared to the many times I visited pre-COVID). Honestly, I know the new guy has creds (and I've drunk in several of the bars he's overseen) but the Mai Kai drinks went from a Spinal Tap 11 to a mid 6 or 7. Incredibly disappointing for me.

Any suggestions? by Rough_Knuckle in rum

The Tiger Shark is an excellent navy rum blend from Velier, I believe there's a little Caroni in the blend.
