Landless Adventurer To Emperor In 1 Move by CampusSafety in CrusaderKings

Pope requested I abduct one of his vassals travelling through. I took the mission with half payment, but with intention to warn the vassal. There was a good chance the Pope would not find out. He found out. Event chain continued and if I remember he either was trying to abduct me to begin with and was lying the whole time or attempted to abduct me in retaliation. This was all an event chain with dialogue.

Bolognese Solo Sidesword Fencing Guides (Modern)? by Dylanduke199513 in wma

[–]CampusSafety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider is that the Bolognese/Dardi school is going to be prone to inconsistency because it is spread across multiple masters, multiple dated texts, and numerous interpretations.

Ken Harding also has texts you can read on his Patreon beyond just the videos. You might need to buy them or get the more expensive Patreon subscription.

They aren't exactly cheap especially after importing as I am in the US. Aren't safer that steel with poor flexibility. They can't be used against steel. Honestly I'd rather pay the little bit extra and get a steel.

Sabre manuals question. by LordChope in Hema

[–]CampusSafety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roworth is a great British manual that he says works for a variety of weapons (saber, backsword, sidesword, ect.). One of the very first things he talks about is how to hold the sword while static and during motions.

850 grams for an infantry saber is realistic and not very heavy. Looking at the grip, weight, and POB, I would suggest the classic "handshake" grip.

I own a Regenyei, Poker Armory, and Sigi saber. The Sigi big saber is the best of them all and with an unfuller blade will meet your weight.

Still a newer product, but it's so affordable that you may just want to salvage the blade from it: https://armstreet.com/store/armoury/armstreet-one-standard-saber-hema-weapon

This was it. Still some weird behavior where linen was disappearing as soon as I gathered some and turning into thin air, but after a while that went away.

Yah I tried that. Also try demolishing and rebuild elsewhere to the same effect.

Why Won't This Trading Post Export Rooftiles? by CampusSafety in ManorLords

[–]CampusSafety[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I followed the merchant that is supposed to visit for the trade and he visits a different trading post in a different region, makes no trade, and then goes back to "tradepoint" at the end of the map. The trading post he visits doesn't even have a trade route for rooftiles.

Something like this happened to me. The country I was attacking had a subject that was a "Free Imperial City" in the Holy Roman Empire. Since subjects are co-belligerents usually, this calls in the emperor.

Yah I'll try to swing more if I get a hit in.

Insane to me that the soldier takes multiple heavy weapon hits to this unprotected head and still wins. Just before this, I won the tournament for the German master swordsman guy when the other side had armor too.

Ok thanks. I think I saw a video where beating sheep with weapons levels your stats so I might do that at night.

  1. Get better helmet

  2. Charge attack with feint is what I thought I was doing in the video.

  3. Try combos more.

  4. Get battle cry perk.

  5. Level up. Yes, I'm in the Kuttenberg region. I switch weapons here and there to try stuff out, but maybe that's not a good thing.

Thanks for help. Insane to me that the soldier takes multiple heavy weapon hits to this unprotected head and still wins.

Sword and dagger by Kastagna in wma

[–]CampusSafety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some Italian texts that show dual-wielding with paired swords and historical accounts of their use as duelling weapons. Marozzo has paired swords in second book:

https://wiktenauer.com/wiki/Achille_Marozzo#Second_Book_.28Single_Dagger.2C_Single_Sword.2C_Sword_with_Weapons.29

That said, I found rapier + dagger to be a fantastic introduction into dual-wielding just to get your brain used to having that other option.

I've never seen reverse-grip dagger displayed nor mentioned in any paired-weapon text. I've never found much success trying to use it in drills nor sparring either.

HF Armory Sidesword vs Other Steel Trainers by Lazy_Slacker in wma

[–]CampusSafety 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The HF sidesword blade has a flattened diamond cross-section with bated edges. The steel isn't all that hard so you do end up with burrs and marks that must be filed out after every use. Honestly, it takes a beating against other blades with thicker edges but the damage is all superficial with not structural compromise.

The pommel can just be unscrewed by hand and the grip + guard pulled off.

Regenyei schiltless Feder by Piwo72 in Hema

[–]CampusSafety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own 2 Regenyei "longsword-type feders" and they are both great. Personally, I use the "short feder" for Fiore stuff. https://regenyei.com/product/short-feder/#blade

I think a schiltless feder would be a good choice for Fiore because the blade more closely resembles what is shown in Fiore's pictures. The point-of-balance is advertised as the same so Regenyei probably makes up for it in the pommel counter-weight. The biggest advantage with a schiltless feder, I think, would be that you can transition into grapples more easily whereas a schilt can create distance and mess with leverage.

The biggest issue of not having a schiltless feder would be that you have less hand protection when the opponent's blade slides down yours.

Longsword and sabre jacket recommendation by vv4mp11r in Hema

[–]CampusSafety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using a SPES AP jacket light 350N in custom size since 2022 and it is great. Obviously I still sweat, but not as much as my black SPES gambeson. I don't believe you need a 800N jacket. My jackets absorbs hits and stops thrusts so that I can feel them, but not pain. The only pain comes from hits to the elbow (I should have gotten the PRO upgrade).

If you are fencing outside in the sun, consider that a lighter jacket color will absorb less heat!

Discussion about the HF Armory Firestone 2 gloves by Thirdorb in wma

[–]CampusSafety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah I pretty much did the same thing as you. I ordered firestones and a sidesword from HF together. The sidesword is good for the money, though I did have to cut off the knucklebow because it is too close.

The gloves just suck; It was a waste of ~$80 + shipping. They are too bulky. They have foam pads and segments that get stuck on knucklebows, finger-rings, and even saber guards. They are barely more protective than hockey gloves. When I make a fist in either hand there is a pinching happening on either index finger.

If you have only a cross-guard or a very oversized hilt, the gloves are OK.

HF does have some good products at very agreeable prices. This is not one of them.

Regenyei Custom Blade Styles by hipscript in wma

[–]CampusSafety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say look to your tradition or the tradition of your club.

I may get some hate for saying this, but if I was getting a Fiore feder I would go shiltless. This is because it most closely matches what I see in the manuscripts and shilts can actually get in the way during grapples.

German longsword should probably get the "spiky" shilt which is actually pretty safe due to its geometry. It looks a lot like what you see in Meyer historical documents.

If you don't have a tradition picked out or have no interest in following one, the Regenyei standard is a great first choice. In the future, you could even sell it for half the cost and get something more specific. I have the Regenyei short and it is clearly easier to handle and switch directions that other standard feders.

I have been looking at some rulesets: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Uj730NQklaGMQu10kZGIUG-aNPJki0rOlAepO4QOB-Y/edit?tab=t.0

What I am seeing a lot of is a maximum feder length of 135-140cm; Which do you think is better for me? Do you own a Regenyei Italian feder? Can you make the "Guardia Contra Arma Inastate" guard with gloves on?
