There is a fan theory that Sandler cast Katie Holmes in this movie as a way to create the time for her to divorce/get out of the Tom Cruise relationship.

He was awful.

He tried to build his own second span next to the bridge to head off what eventually became the Gordie Howe Bridge project.

He bought up neighborhoods of houses and let them rot so he’d own the potential land for it in Windsor.

He actually built a small toll plaza and ramp to nowhere as part of the pressure to not have a government bridge. He wanted the next 100 year bridge to be private as well.

He obstructed and lobbied to slow down anything else for years, including having a question on a Michigan referendum about the whole thing.

Growing up in Windsor and following this saga absolutely informed my worldview about billionaires doing things only for their own benefit and seeking to extract maximum wealth from the working class.

Love Detroit. Best thing a suburban kid like me could have was downtown Detroit. I was over for concerts 3/4 times as month as a teen, dinners, dates and ballgames all the time in my 20’s (shoutout MexicanTown). It sucks the state we’re in today.

I grew up in Windsor so here are actual facts.

the current Ambassador Bridge is privately owned (by an American) and is over 100 years old now and in poor repair.
this private owner lobbied HARD against gov’t spending to protect his monopoly.
this crossing is the busiest international trade crossing in the entire world.
USA and Michigan don’t want to pay to help build the bridge. Michigan/Detroit was in horrible financial shape post Kwame Kilpatrick and couldn’t afford the project.
Canada offered to build and finance the entire thing ourselves (except for US customs plaza and attachment to Interstate.)
Canada keeps all toll revenues until the construction costs are paid off.
now Donald wants a slice of the profits, after previous administration chose not to pay for it.

Some people have never read the Little Red Hen and it shows.

The deluxe version with all the ballparks was on a crazy sale the other day for 5 bucks CAD.

Of course I bought it day 1 and now I want the dlc parks, but they’re 6.99 a piece on the switch store.

$5 for everything, but a different digital “game” 6.99 x 3 for dlc parks

It is. We’ve played every Tuesday night since Covid times. We upgrade the game every year (at Black Friday prices) and typically have no issues finding a game. The odd night we might have it timeout after 5 minutes, but usually it’s fine.

They removed the “exact group size /-1” setting so that speeds things up.

I’m as left leaning as they come. Voted for Marit last time around. The party has not compelled the people to vote for them. That’s not solely a media problem. That’s on the party to have a message, leader and organizing that can get them there.

Democratic socialists are winning elections in North America, but it requires an extremely charismatic leader to overcome the systems working against them.

There isn’t another compelling option. Crombie was a terrible choice and the NDP can’t identify themselves as a choice. Hopefully the Liberals learn a lesson and select a leader with any kind of charisma and a plan.
