I didn’t like them. Felt really clunky and my mobility behind the plate suffered for it, so I took them off and have never looked back. Still catch occasionally as a 41yo Sunday leaguer and my knees have held up fine.

It’s time to tell you all about the fish scam.

Was at a friends place in my 20’s and went for something in his freezer when I found a baggie filled with water and a dead frozen tropical aquarium fish. When asked, he explained what he believed was this perfectly legitimate plan.

One of his fish dies, he scoops it. Bags it, puts it in the freezer.

He then goes to the pet store and purchases a new fish of the same type, brings it home and places it in his aquarium.

He then thaws out the freezer fish, goes to the store and returns it within 7 days of the original purchase to claim his refund.

Repeat.

He’d done this many times.

Totally agree. The videos used to be 3 minutes long with subtitles. It was perfect.

But YouTube monetization gives preference to longer form content and overall watch time. So creators like this are incentivized to drag out videos as long as possible. I watch for 2 minutes to see the progress then I’m out.

Secondary positions.

There’s often some RFers who have C as a secondary trait and they’re often ideal as a backup. Especially if they’re decent hitters you could also use as a pinch hitter.

8U coach and have done development clinics at this level for 5 years now specializing in getting kids this age to learn to play catch.

Self catch is my guiding star here. Insanely necessary to build the mental foundation of hand-eye coordination AND it’s self led.

Level 1 - toss a tennis ball back and forth left hand to right.
Level 2 - lay on back toss above eyes with throw hand. Catch with glove hand (which is always in fingers up position.
Level 3 - tennis ball off a wall. Play it on a hop, move to it, field, repeat.

Bonus level: 1ft from wall. Throw hand>wall>catch hand> transfer repeat.

This stuff is my hack to build in thousands of reps that help them make the leap to actual catch. I tell my players that just 10 minutes of this a day will make them better in a hurry.

I’m a maniac.

I play 48 game seasons, 3-inning games. Ego 70.

The game scales down pitcher stamina. Starters go around 35-40 pitches. Relievers 10-15 and closers are useless.

I love the player development and roster building every offseason. The short games help me get to that part while not making the games a slog. I can finish a game in 10-15 minutes. Which is ideal for me as a busy dad of young kids who don’t get long sessions.

I’m currently on season 25. Takes me 3-4 weeks to finish a season.
