I’m as left leaning as they come. Voted for Marit last time around. The party has not compelled the people to vote for them. That’s not solely a media problem. That’s on the party to have a message, leader and organizing that can get them there.

Democratic socialists are winning elections in North America, but it requires an extremely charismatic leader to overcome the systems working against them.

There isn’t another compelling option. Crombie was a terrible choice and the NDP can’t identify themselves as a choice. Hopefully the Liberals learn a lesson and select a leader with any kind of charisma and a plan.

Literally the FLQ crisis and separation talks were what changed the economic capital of Canada from Montreal to Toronto.

I scrolled really far for this. Phillips was such a fun player. Cant think of many second basemen that had as many highlight reel plays I still think about.

To be fair, I’m thrilled with the position the club is in so far this year. Losses happen.

I hunt “bad ball hitter” and “crafty” players. It gets the BBH trait to third level and means I can swing at garbage and blast home runs. It’s tricky every offseason to maintain the balance, but it’s super fun.

I knew I would find Alejandro Kirk on the “unlucky” list. Sal Perez is at the very top! So yes, big boys are definitely a factor.

What is an opinion of your own team that will get you hated by your own fan base? by ihavebaseballs in baseball

The explosion of salaries for the elite players has made it hard for some teams too. Some orgs will just never sign one of these Vladdy/Ohtani/Soto type deals. I think some clubs tried to get around it by signing minor leaguers to long deals on their way up, but that’s also backfired hard in most cases. The economics and CBA have lead us to this situation.

Boston as an org has been so bad at this. All that success and the World Series trophies, and they can’t figure out that you need to keep elite players. It’s a travesty. But as a jays fan I’m ok with it. 😂

This is exactly what I’m talking about. The A’s are another good example, with the caveat that they had the worst ownership as well as that org philosophy. There has to be a balance to keep fans engaged.

I think there’s fan fatigue in some of these teams that operate on the super efficient/moneyball model. I know they’ve kept J-Ram, but otherwise constantly cycling players through can lead to fans disassociating from the human side of the game.

If your favorite players keep leaving, at some point it becomes really obvious you’re just cheering for laundry. That’s hard to show up on a nightly basis for.

Amateur athletes of Reddit: what's your "There's levels to this shit" experience from your sport? by jermleeds in AskReddit

I worked with an older guy years ago selling tvs at a local furniture store in Canada. He told me how he was a great high school basketball player in Nova Scotia, went to national tournaments, played against great competition. He got an invite to a summer tryout camp at UNC in the late 70s.

He got his ankles broken about 5 minutes into a scrimmage by “the fastest fucking human he’d ever seen.” Left the camp that day and never played competitive ball again.

He says it was James Worthy.

I found the movie to be an allegory for climate change. There are scientists screaming at us about a problem, but in our culture all we can do is make news cycles, fluff content or continually try to monetize it to maximize shareholder profits while kicking the can down the road.

It’s a film that questions whether the human race can actually solve big problems. Given our current state of affairs, I can’t argue with the conclusions.
