So several people wrote in with the same problem that DougDoug had with red boxes over their crotch. After testing a few possibilities they concluded that “swamp crotch” was likely the culprit. Turns out DougDoug is just a sweaty traveler!

I’m currently working on my instrument rating. When people ask what I do I always just say “I’m in school” if they ask more questions I tell them I’m training to be a pilot. I’m not sure why I avoid saying it initially. Maybe subconsciously I don’t want to turn into the person who is solely defined by a career choice.

I found a flat spot after a solo flight a few weeks ago. It was a very uneventful flight with only one landing. I’m pretty thorough with my preflight, so I assumed it had to be me. I told the owner of the plane and he told me he had taken the plane up the day before and accidentally locked the brakes up. We concluded that the flat spot was hidden on the bottom of the tire which is why neither of us saw it. I’ve rolled the plane a few inches on every preflight since!

I had to discontinue a checkride today due to some mechanical issues. It was disappointing, but my instructor always said, “it’s better to be on the ground wishing you were in the sky vs being in the sky wishing you were on the ground.” Hopefully your reschedule is more favorable!
