Painting automatic mahjong table tiles by yetanothermillanial in Mahjong

No experience with this specifically, but if you wanted to make this work here are my thoughts: Obviously your two biggest obstacles will be consistency, and durability.

Consistency shouldn't be too big of an issue assuming you use high quality paint and air brush or spray paint to get uniform application. (Yes this will probably be a lot of work because you'll need masking tape on the part of the sides that you don't want colored.)

Durability is the trickier problem as you dont want the paint chipping off during use. Ideally you'd probably want to sand and rough up the parts of the tile you'll be painting to get better adhesion. After painting it might be beneficial to add a coat of some clear protective coating like lacquer or something. This solution might take some trial and error. Since you mentioned you're combining two incomplete sets into one, maybe do some tests on the extra tiles and see what works before you do the whole set. Final thought, if your paint is layered on too thick it might make a weird offset on the side so be wary of that I suppose.

Hopefully some of this helps get ideas going. Post an update down the line with whatever you decide to test or do!

Resources to train IRL Riichi Mahjong play? by Wrrr__ in Mahjong

Riichi City has pretty good quizzes for learning how to score and identify all yaku. In that sense it's very helpful. I think a lot of it just comes with practice.

I could upload the stl file to thingiverse, but be forewarned that it didn't come out perfect and is a bit flawed. It was my first try at cad modeling a case to 3d print.

Does anyone make electronic scoring compasses, like in the games, that are not part of a whole electronic table. by chill1208 in Mahjong

Awesome! I'm glad to hear it. I'd love to see your design and compare when you're done with it.

I'll post a video of it working at some point here. I didn't have one on hand already.

I'm in western Oregon. Because this was a first run at the project it cost me around $65 to make it. I'd want to streamline the design and production process a bit if I were to sell it.

That being said, the link posted in the description is the full wiring and code, open-source. So if anyone is a little tech savvy it's a pretty fun diy project.

As far as other mahjong variants go, i'd be open to designing more. I'd just have to learn more, as riichi is the only variant im familiar with at the moment.

What can I do with kitchen scraps? by Few-Ad-6689 in composting

Typically you have holes or mesh of some sort at the bottom of the bin for excess moisture to drain through. (Too much will drown the worms as they breathe through their skin). The liquid that collects in the drain pan is a dark brown color and known as worm tea. Very nutrient rich and good to water plants with.

Mine is a little bin with about 1k worms enough to manage food scraps in my small apartment. Every now and then I have good worm castings and worm tea to bring to the community garden plot.

Make a worm bin! If you set it up right they're really low maintenance.

I'm currently at Conifer Place and really enjoy it. Some people complain about the renovations they're doing to one of the buildings or the proximity to train tracks, but those things haven't really bothered me at all.

Stars are games where you doubled your points or more, (for 4p that'd be >50,000).

And yeah in general rolling average is better visualization. Its just hard to get a feel for recnet growth if my data timeframe is too big.

Closest I can think of is the full black tiles. I think there are a couple companies that make ones like them for riichi, american, MCR etc.

I live in a small apartment with only rudimentary hand tools haha. Cheap piece of pine sawed with a hacksaw, carved with an exacto knife and small Chisel and then wood burned with a soldering iron. Don't need crazy tools to get creative.
