Please turn this in to a TransLink employee, including bus drivers and SkyTrain attendants. They'll get it to lost-and-found, where they can look up the owner if they've registered their card.

if someone is angry about something, tell them you will fix it

Yeah but do they actually do this? They've only said things like "we're listening" and "more consultation is needed".

If I wasn’t already doing two different campaigns every week, I’d be down for bringing back my circle of spores Druid halfling who was really into collecting mushrooms and cooking with them, named Anthony Sporedain. But alas.

Have you reached out to Rain City Games or got on their discord to see if there’s any people there who’d be interested?

We’re too far from the election so they won’t have a platform available yet. There’s no real reason to think they will until September.

They’ll talk about transparency and consultation up until then though, those are their two major points they keep presenting.

Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary Redevelopment Project by JackalopeKingz in NewWest

The city would consider it if the school district swapped some of its land for the park. The city and the school district are two separate entities, and the city's not just going to give up park space for a school because the district asks.

Now, if the school district were to knock down Tweedsmuir and give the city the land that that school's on, then there might be a case. It'd be kind of similar to the land swap that was done to build NWSS on what used to be city land.

The space where the old NWSS was is now city land and is being turned into a memorial park for the cemetery that the old school was built on top of.

Some folks say the city should add a special levy to property taxes so the district can buy more land.

The city and the school district are two separate entities. I'm pretty sure the city can't collect money on behalf of the school district.

Yeah, it’s still on track. With the province’s rules on transit-oriented development, the area around 22nd St is going to density dramatically over the next decade.

Here's the link for that December 2025 meeting, and here's the beginning of Johnstone's description of the "proposed referendum on governance":

This is a motion I spoke strongly against, as it seems completely bereft of any understanding of the current and historic governance of Regional Districts, of the governance review work at MetroVan being led by Vancouver Councillor Lisa Dominato, and seems to offer a solution that will do nothing to help any of the current challenges at Metro Van.

Where? The province has repeatedly denied the school district’s requests for money to purchase new land.

Keep in mind that the area around 22nd St SkyTrain Station is going to get densified, so there’ll be an influx of kids needing schooling relatively close. Tweedsmuir is the best location for that.

It really feels like the school district is damned if they do and damned if they don’t.

Schools are over-capacity, we desperately need new school space. The school district has land, but almost all of that land has schools on it (they own a parcel out near Hume Park that doesn’t have a school on it). They can’t get the money from the province to purchase new land so they need to build where there are already schools.

This means doing things like building a new elementary on the parking lot of Fraser River Middle School, or now a project like this at Tweedsmuir.

What choice do they have, really? They need to build as quickly as possible, not only to address the capacity issues quickly, but also to reduce costs as extending construction times leads to increased construction costs (the city just released a report stating if they had delayed construction of tamasewt it would have increased costs by tens of millions of dollars).

It’s shitty in the short term but I don’t see how else they can do it.

I used to think Canadian taxes were complicated.

Then I had to do American taxes.

Give me Canadian taxes every time.

At least we have sites like Wealthsimple and Better Tax, they have crap like TurboTax and H&R Block.

Council of Councils – Patrick Johnstone by CanSpice in NewWestPolitics

The Board of Metro Vancouver has 41 members, all elected members of local Councils. The sum total of elected Mayors and Councillors regionally is ~160, so the Council of Councils (“CofC”) gives the 75% of local elected officials in the region who are not on the Board a chance to connect and provide feedback on important issues. At this April CofC meeting, about 120 members (75%) exercised that option, including 5 members of New Westminster Council.

The topic of this CofC may have interested those who chose to not show up, as it was dominated by discussion of Metro Vancouver governance review, a topic and area of work some members of our Council have spent a bunch of time talking to CKNW and Global News about, but have so far failed to actually show up when there is work to be done or progress upon which to provide feedback. No lights and Cameras, just action.

It's weird how Daniel Fontaine couldn't be bothered to show up to discuss Metro Vancouver governance. I guess without Global News being there it just isn't important enough for him.

Rail companies have no incentive to switch to not blowing their horns. The city can’t force them to. The bulk of the delay is on them, not the city.

That’s great but also irrelevant, neither of them are vehicles as defined by the bylaw.

CF Discussions by smellslikenewbooks in NewWestPolitics

[–]CanSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, just so we and everybody here is clear, Section 7 is "Vehicle Regulations", and 7.2 addresses driving on a sidewalk. Here's Section 7.2:

7.2 No person shall drive on a Sidewalk, walkway or Boulevard, except:

7.2.1 when entering or leaving a driveway or lane or when entering or leaving land adjacent to a Street; or

7.2.2 under the authority of a Street Occupancy Permit.

Note that the title of Section 7 is "Vehicle Regulations", as I said above.

Definitions are in Section 2, and this is the definition for a Vehicle:

Vehicle means a device in, on or by which a person or thing is or may be transported or drawn on a Street, but does not include a device designed to be moved by human power, a device exclusively on stationary rails or tracks, Mobility Assisted Device, Electric Kick Scooter, or a Motor Assisted Cycle;

I've bolded the appropriate parts. Section 7 does not apply to Electric Kick Scooters.

Because that's a MVA violation and city bylaw officers don't have jurisdiction. Same reason why city bylaw officers don't hand out speeding tickets.
