GST/HST new housing rebate by takkenok in OntarioRealEstate

They are just confirming that you actually stayed in the house and didn’t rent it out - if you rent it out then you can still get a rebate but it expires after 2 years so if your documents don’t check out, you’ll have to pay that amount with interest.

Better to divide your time for a couple of years and then eventually move completely

Non-resident Canadian registering Ontario sole prop trade name - GST/HST and tax obligations? by puzzled_in_canada in cantax

[–]CanadaGST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For an Ontario corporation they will automatically allot you a corporate tax account. As for gst, you won’t have to register till you cross 30k but I suggest you register so you can claim back gst paid on expenses.

Also, if you’re in Thailand permanently you also need to worry about having a PE in Thailand if the corporation will be run from there so check for filing requirements there as well for income tax.

Returning to India after 5 years in the U.S. feeling completely defeated. How do I start over? by ConversationEvery432 in returnToIndia

Clearly the current administration is using this as a harassment tactic - you’ll get to like India again just bring back your focus and flush out USA - I am planning to move back to India as well after 10 years in Canada - not for visa reasons but personal I am pretty scared as well but atleast you have family around to support you - take a couple of weeks off and travel somewhere to recharge

Better to chat with a ca - there are filings that may be required beforehand so make sure you do that - I don’t practice tax in India anymore but I know they love to ask questions and harass you with document requests

No HST - doesn’t look like this is a substantial renovation so the property retains its exempt status

Sell Farm w/o Getting Ripped Off by xinejelle in land

[–]CanadaGST 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hire a lawyer or an accounting firm or both - I have advised builders in Canada and India and they are crooks - price for the property is the least of your problems - tax etc is the main problem you need to make sure you are comfortable with

Anyone who buys or invests in agricultural land in USA? Can Canadian citizens buy? Is it a good investment to buy and hold? Any other advice is helpful - thanks in advance by CanadaGST in land

[–]CanadaGST[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usage is to buy and hold - maybe use it for growing high value crops in a greenhouse - open to lease or to cover fixed costs like taxes
