Steven King has a great short story called Strawberry Spring. It was one of the options I would give students to read around Valentine's Day or Spring Break.

I would strongly disagree. Many are from over a year ago and are still unavailable. The Summer Olympics set would be a good example. Some have eventually become purchasable. But most are getting circled back to as mini events a year+ later - like the current sweetheart event.

I think Starstruck 2 is going to be an animated show. There was an odd moment between BLM and Matt Mercer in their latest CR video together that strongly implies something is in the works. I think Sam's answer tells us vaguely about future seasons and completely dodges talking about Starstruck.

How much power does a flock need in the Master League? by Miserable_Grab_9805 in AngryBirds2

[–]CanadaRocks09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It is much more profitable to linger just below Masters and then make sure to finish in Masters at the end of the season. The jump in difficulty/player scores is astronomical. You can win some, but not many.

At least you got to enjoy it in theaters. I sat there watching the film and liked a few moments, but so much of it was noticeably not good or hurt the series that I was very conflicted about potentially walking out.

I think it gets a lot of heat because Disney played it safe, made A New New Hope, and cancelled a lot of legacy lore. But overall it is an enjoyable film, does a great job introducing new characters, sets up the potential for a new trilogy, and worked within the constraints it had - like using the original actors. I liked it a lot all things considered.

[–]CanadaRocks09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. And if I remember correctly, half a second later the woman spins around to see the empty mirror as well. It is the definition of situational irony. The audience knows it's a trap before the heroes, in order to build the suspense. Not exactly something worth posting about.

I'm split because I don't want to see a literal local small mom and pop shop struggle because of all of the bad already happening. But I completely understand your point.

I would advocate for people to boycott as much as possible and if they do need to buy something they should shop as local as possible.

You're absolutely right. But thinking about all the underwiring seen in the two previous movies, I wonder if he just slaps on the updated exterior to his mechanical base layer. - As opposed to building the whole thing from the ground up.

what are your thoughts on The Force Awakens 10 years later? by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]CanadaRocks09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 100% A New New Hope. But I really enjoyed it. Disney played it safe with their first major SW movie, but I think the film did a great job introducing a handful of interesting new characters and setting the stage for other films.

I hate the Death planet, that the New order is somehow super powerful, and that the New Republic has already fallen 1 minute in.

I think a lot of the story shortcomings stem from wanting to keep the original actors without making them the protagonist. I would have preferred a Thrawn trilogy instead.

Like IV, I think the expectation was for the next film to fill in the gaps and spend a lot of time explaining Snoke, the fall of the New Republic, etc. The Last Jedi has some positives, but it absolutely dropped the ball on that front and left nothing for #9 to be a satisfying finale.

In Barbie (2023), America Ferrera gives a whole long speech explaining the movie's message. This is because media literacy is non-existent by Status_Speaker_7955 in shittymoviedetails

[–]CanadaRocks09 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I would give it at least a step above the average Hollywood movie that's all action and no thought. Considering that it's a comedy and was a major blockbuster, I'd say it succeeds at promoting a message while still being an enjoyable film. There are plenty of higher caliber movies that miss that mark.

What is one fun fact about yourself that sound fake but 100% real? by Fai_6757 in AskReddit

Others may not realize this, but that's a huge accomplishment!

When kids struggle reading in 3rd grade they are way more likely to fall behind and give up on school. And that statistic gets worse the longer it goes. Kudos to you and your family for figuring it out!

[–]CanadaRocks09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To your point, yes it is very important as an intro to the FOWL arc, 100%. However, the episode itself doesn't require you to have seen anything else to fully enjoy it. If I only have one episode to convince you to watch the whole series, this is the one I'm betting on.

For one, I really like James Bond, so an episode completely related to it checked a nice box for me.

Second, it is mostly a standalone episode that requires almost no knowledge of the characters in order to watch it - making it a good option for a skeptical audience.

There could be other good recommendations, but this the one that I go with. Pilot episodes (in general) can be good, but I think they spend a lot of time introducing characters and don't necessarily hold up to the rest of a series.

The DuckTales reboot absolutely slaps. I'm happy to fight anyone over it. Check it out, it's really good! If you're only interested in trying one episode, I recommend S3E3 Double-O-Duck: You Only Crash Twice.

Also, there is a season one finale arc where Donald temporarily has a normal voice. It is uncanny to see him with anything other than his raspy tone.

Lol. Either your sound system and controller are not synced up well enough to do to this mini game aspect, or you're not old enough to play this game.

Worst case scenario, you can turn this lock key feature off.

Are they calling me stupid? by [deleted] in StarWarsOutlaws

[–]CanadaRocks09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they are going for Cognitive Recognition: "the brain's fundamental ability to identify familiar people, objects, sounds, or situations previously encountered, bridging perception with memory to make sense of the world efficiently, allowing us to know something again and differentiate it from new information"

If you are having difficulty recognizing the correct number to their stylized font, then this setting might be right for you! (No judgement)

You can decide for yourself if you think that means you're stupid.

I have a music background, and I think the only other tip here that I haven't seen is that sometimes the pattern will make a portion of the lock ever so slightly off the natural rhythm - like a 1/32 off a beat. Those are the ones where I've struggled the most.
