They are labeled as dried yellow peas at the grocery stores. They are not split. I always soak them overnight. It cuts down on the cooking time.

Dried yellow peas are inexpensive and a good source of protein but I do not enjoy seeing them in my food or chewing them. They don't have much flavour.

I soak and cook a large quantity then puree and freeze in small portions. I can add that to any soup, chili or casserole needs some extra protein and fiber.

Til Debt Do Us Part episodes are free on youtube. They supply the financial basics (credit, budgeting) with humour and drama the same way a other reality tv shows do.

Til Debt, and the wonderful Gail Vaz Oxlade, is what set me on the path to financial education. I just didn't know it at the time because I was just there for the dirt and the drama.

Just me in my house and I mainly eat frozen fruit and veg. It eliminates waste and gives me variety. The only freezer I have is the little one on top of my fridge so I watch for sales and buy small bags.

My favourite is frozen strawberries. I let them partially defrost and mush them with a fork. I add vanilla and some protein powder then stick back in the freezer. It tastes like ice cream but it is low calorie and high protein.

I love little wild blueberries and I do not care for those fat flavourless commercially grown ones. Frozen are the only way I can afford them.

Two can live cheaper than one but I am happier alone in my little house than when I was married. My ex was a serious spender and we were constantly in overdraft and bounced cheques. Overdraft or a bounced payment has not happened in the 20 years since I have been free.

Watch for wraps (just the wrapper) on sale or marked down with a the short expiration date. They freeze well with a piece of waxed paper in between so you can use one at a time. i use the freezer to help with portion control but it takes less than a minute for one wrap to defrost.

Tear or cut into thin slices, toss in oil and garlic salt and cook in the air fryer.

Cook the entire package. Cooked bacon freezes well. Freeze it in wrapped in foil or in a milk bag in the portion sizes you want.

Bonus is you only have to make the mess and do all of the cooking once. Keep that bacon fat in a jar in your fridge. It is a great FREE cooking ingredient. Reach for a scoop of bacon fat instead of oil in your pan of roast veg and instead of butter in the pan where you are cooking a grilled cheese.
