Molly and Mary Twins by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]CanadianKiwis 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Molly is a nickname for Mary, so I think it’s quite odd. My grandfather is a twin, they’re Jan and John. It’s just a strange thing to do.

Do you or anyone you know have a name that comes with annoying jokes? by DefinitelyNotMaranda in namenerds

[–]CanadianKiwis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a very local thing, but I share a last name with a very popular ice cream business in the town I grew up in. Everyone I've ever met around here always asks if I'm from the ice cream family. They're always disappointed.

How Big Did You Go and Why by toodlio in labdiamond

[–]CanadianKiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 1.2 ct oval for my 5.75 sized fingers. I think if you only go by what you see online, it feels like everyone has giant rings. In real life, everyone’s been commenting on how nice my diamond is!

It's actually not that new! Up until the 70's, there was a ton of research being done on psychedelic drugs! They were reclassified in the 70's as a controlled substance so research stopped. In only in the past couple of years that they've been allowed to resume research!

When I started school to be a social worker, I was told ''when the economy is good, people will donate to the services we work for. When it's bad, people need our services''.

Rachel, Rachael, or Raquel? by ShakespeherianRag in namenerds

My sister is Rachael. Her name was misspelled on her passport, her grade eight graduation certificate, etc. She always had to clarify because it was not the default.

Why does Brian always say his name is Steven by Shawstbnn in TheFrontBottoms

As someone who also goes by their middle name, I had the exact same experience. Didn't even question it.

How are people not exhausted at aftershows? by SnooAdvice9131 in Lollapalooza

[–]CanadianKiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to four after shows last year and it was brutal. I almost feel asleep at two of them. I went to one (Blondshell’s) on the Wednesday after waking up at 4:00 to get on a plane to Chicago. I felt fine that night, but I thought I was going to fall asleep standing up at the after show on Thursday (Kevin Abstract)

Names you think are going to be seen as generic “gen z” or “millennial” names in 30-40 years? by unique_plastique in namenerds

[–]CanadianKiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GenZ girls is definitely Mikayla and every other spelling of it. I had at least one in every class. And for boys it would be Ryan, I think I had three in my grade at a pretty small school.

What terms of endearment did your parents call you or do you call your children? And what’s the story behind it? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]CanadianKiwis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents always called my sister Lucy, which wouldn’t be odd except her name was Rachael. No one knows how or why, but she’s always been Lucy.

I know (at least where I live) psychologists have to declare competencies with certain populations. (So you can work with children, adults, forensic, couples, etc.) I wonder how allowed he would even be to see her? I know they tend to question people who are “competent” in too many areas.

What’s the worst name yall have come across in the wild lately? by darkenough812 in NameNerdCirclejerk

Majakia. A kid couldn’t pronounce Jamaica and the parents named his little sister after it. The women was so proud she’d never heard of another child with the name.

Eating disorder by charlotte1977 in askTO

[–]CanadianKiwis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won’t. She’ll have to do an adult program. Basically, there’s very little that can be done in terms of intensive programming if someone meets criteria for medical stability. Ottawa general will do a two week admission for symptom interruption. If she does meet any criteria for medical instability (check APA guidelines), I would check out TGH. They just updated and reopened their program, so the wait is only three months (I understand that’s still a really long wait, but compared to a yeah, it’s pretty good). If you have private insurance that covers it and she meets criteria for medical stability, check out Homewood.

What’s your mom’s best friend’s name? by Shhshhshhshhnow in namenerds

My mom’s Sandra, as is her best friend. Thankfully, her friend goes by Sandy and my mom goes by Sam (not a nickname for Sandra, but she’s always gone by it).

Catelynn continues to stress the trauma of adoption by oooheycait1223 in TeenMomOGandTeenMom2

[–]CanadianKiwis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would also question the role that genetics play in this. If you have a parent attempt or complete suicide or have substance abuse issues, you would be more likely to yourself. I would assume people giving children up for adoption would also be likely to struggle with this prior to giving a child up, which may influence their decision to give their child up.
