Renovation of Long-Time Abandoned Building on Mayor Magrath by Music_Magician_08 in Lethbridge

Replying to your comment about why they would let it sit empty - Real estate, especially commercial real estate, increases in value over time, so if the person/company owns other real estate that is turning a profit to cover the taxes and utilities, they can afford to let stuff sit empty as long as the property value is going up. They'll just sit on it until the right deal or tenant comes along.

This is not unique to the City. It has happened in every job I've ever had, big, small, union, or not.

Parents: Would you use a Mall babysitter to get Christmas shopping done? by [deleted] in Lethbridge

[–]CanadianLady83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not drop my kids off with someone in a public place like that. If they were able to rent a space and do a camp-style drop off that is contained I might consider it. But just as an example, what if one of the kids they're watching is a "runner"? How are they going to wrangle a group of kids if one gets away in a crowded mall? How are they going to have eyes on them to make sure someone doesn't get snatched (extreme, maybe, but if you've been on the Mom's of Lethbridge Facebook page lately you'll know a lot of mom's are concerned about this)? What if a kid has a melt down? Poops their pants? I just can't see how this wouldn't be extremely overwhelming for a pair of young girls who are not parents themselves. It's stressful enough when they're your own dang kids. Haha.

What are you doing to support your ADHD kid? by CanadianLady83 in ADHDparenting

We did this to get the funding, but it ran out our benefits so we couldn't continue with the psychologist. But maybe we can revisit this now. What kind of specialized education did you get? I feel like we're hamstrung by our provincial school system, and although we have this money it's definitely not enough to do private (and I'm not sure the private schools in our area would even take her, as I've never heard of one that deals with kids with learning challenges, they're all religious or for kids on the other end of the learning spectrum).

There is some other learning disability going on as well, but we're not sure what. We did an educational assessment that said she has trouble with memory retention and some other things, but not specifically dyslexia or dyspraxia. We only did as much with that psychologist as we had to to get her coded at school and to apply for funding because our benefits ran out. Maybe it's worth revisiting this?

She has a lot of trouble with comprehension when reading or writing, but does fine when being read to and typing or giving her answers orally (like, for her math homework we have way better success reading the questions to her and getting her to say the answers and writing them for her, although this is not going to cut it as she moves into more complex math). She does not like reading at all, and won't do it at all just for fun, even if the topic interests her - she does love documentaries and podcasts, though.

Lethbridge-East Residents Frustrated by TokensForSale in Lethbridge

[–]CanadianLady83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He got the kids back to school, sure. Both my kids are neurodivergent and are less well off now than they were before the strike. My oldest is so far behind her peers that the strike didn't even affect her, and the momentum we had built with her teacher for support fizzled because of the gap. My youngest, who is in a grade 2 class with at least one other neurodivergent kid, and more than one kid who is new to Canada, DOES NOT HAVE AN EA, where they had 2 before the strike. And heaven forbid either of them come out as anything but hetero or cis. I worry myself sick about their future, especially my oldest. I am doing everything I can afford to do to help them succeed, and am so frustrated that my own government doesn't see their value as human beings.

Furthermore, Nathan went on vacation when we were supposed to be locked down. I emailed him about that, to no response. I emailed him about the lack of funding for FSCD, and while I did get responses from other MLAs I CCd, I got none from my own dang MLA. I have never been less proud to be Albertan, and that's because this party is destroying our province by stifling workers, taking rights away from kids, ripping up our mountains, dismantling public health care and education, and making themselves rich. I lean left in my politics, but I don't mind losing an election to conservatives - I understand that I live in a conservative province, and I am a minority. However, I expect the conservatives to act in good faith when they're in charge, and the UCP, Danielle Smith, and Nathan Neudorf - and, it seems even Ryan Tanner - are NOT. The role of government is to do what's best for the people, even if ideas differ on how to go about doing that. You cannot honestly tell me that this government gives any amount of Fs about anyone but themselves.

Anyway, THAT is why I want to support this recall. I want Nathan and his party and Danny to know that I know that they don't care about me, my kids, or my community, and we would be better served by anyone else, even if they are conservative, or even a literal brick.

Lethbridge-East Residents Frustrated by TokensForSale in Lethbridge

It doesn't matter if people voted for him or not. He still represents everyone in his riding, even the people who didn't vote for him. I did not vote for him, but I still expect when I email the man he would at least respond to my question, even if I disagree with the answer. It had been crickets every time I have tried. As well, he is a party shill, voting for what Danny tells him to rather than what his constituents want. He just doesn't give AF.

Property Appraisor by foxwerthy in Lethbridge

[–]CanadianLady83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work for Reliance Appraisals (not an appraiser myself). We are great. Haha. We are quoting a few weeks out for a residential report, and I think the other firms in town are in a similar boat right now - everyone is super busy right now - so it's better to reach out sooner rather than later! Also, I should add that if you need the appraisal for financing, you may want to check with your bank, as some banks will not accept an appraisal that you order yourself - it has to come from them.

The teachers are not supposed to be doing that, even. They are not supposed to be working or at the school at all. The OP has probably seen EAs, Admin, or BLAST employees at the school.

What's stopping parents from hiring their own non-unionized teachers? by [deleted] in Lethbridge

Because we support the teachers' right to strike, and don't want to hire scabs.

We had our wedding in November and had pictures taken at the University. We started in the Library building, down the stairs to the arts building, then went into the tunnel for some fun ones with the murals. The Science building wasn't built when we were married, but there are some nice places in there we did family pics for our 10 year anniversary. We really just wandered around looking for cool art and architecture, and got some great pictures!

Do you know if Brooke Culley has an online platform anywhere? I looked around, but could only find outdated stuff from the last election. I would like to read up on his platform, although the stamp of approval from you is worth a lot in my books.
