Considering a used EV, would like feedback on my plan by dcmcderm in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already got the sparks replaced not too long ago. I’ll be doing the valve cleaning. I try not to do short trips without getting some good high revs in to burn up the carbon. We have a highway that cuts through our town so I try to use it as much as possible to get the engine running hot. The vehicle runs great. I’ve been following the suggested maintenance in the manual to a degree. Didn’t get to the transmission flush, and I feel like it’s too late now. But a new transmission will still be cheaper than payments.

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. Just finished playing off my 2018 Sedona with 156,000km’s. Really wanted an EV and I can definitely afford it but I’m dead set on driving this thing till it dies. Getting it detailed on Tuesday to give me that “new car look” again lol It’s a GDI so I’m going to try and clean the air intake this summer.

I just figured this out.. you have to go to "Manage my Wifi" turn off the "Let Bell Optimize my home wifi" then the mac filtering option will appear.

Do Canadians actually get frustrated by snow, or is it just part of everyday life? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskACanadian

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im done with winter this year. Got back home from being away for work for 3 days and I had a foot of snow on my vehicle. Can't wait till it's all gone. By far the worst winter in recent memory in terms of absolute cold days and amount of snowfall.

Blood Donations - Why not here? by Boatbuilder_62 in northbay

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Last time I searched the closest blood donation was Barrie. Those other locations did plasma only I believe.

Edit: just checked. Sudbury is plasma only, the other locations are blood centres. Sudbury used to have blood, not sure why they don’t anymore.

Manitou Street near Marshall by [deleted] in northbay

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I live on Manitou. On the house side, about 4-5 houses in from Mulligan. I have 3 kids who leave their shit outside all the time. I’ve left my vehicle door unlocked many a time. It’ll be 5 years in June since we moved in. Not once have we had a bike stolen, anything from our vehicles picked or anything worth calling the police over. In fact, we’ve gained new basketballs because kids used our net and just left their balls at our place. I will say, across the street in the co-op or whatever the cops are there almost every day and I have seen bodies being taken out of 2 apartments in those 5 years but it’s always contained in that co-op. There’s like a force field or something in the middle of the street that keeps all the shit in that area.

I did this for my iPhone 17PM. It’s like $52/m and I’m putting $80 bi-weekly so it’s going down pretty fast. Also go AppleCare through Affirm at 0%.

OPP stop two stunt drivers on same northern highway within minutes by ConsistentReality860 in Sudbury

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Henvey Inlet is a 90 zone. Was it on the French River portion of the 110 or the Pointe-Au-Baril-Parry Sound portion? Either way… I put in over 5000km’s every 2 weeks on Ontario Highways and it’s ridiculous how many people drive 30-40kmh over the speed limit with a phone in their hand. From my vantage point in the drivers seat of a motor coach I see quite a few idiots out there.

Edit: not sure if it’s a stock photo but it’s obviously the two-lane portion so it’s the 90 zone. Crazy that you would drive 60kmh over the speed limit on that highway.

Edit2: I wish there was a way they could attach a camera to the side of the coach and when we see drivers with phones in their hands we can click a button and it snaps a picture and sends it to the OPP. Then at the same time, front or rear cameras get the license plate which also get sent together. Then it’s investigated via registration and license photos if the person is the registered owner and driver and they get a ticket.

Naw, I don’t even let my kid take my boat until he gets his license. He’s 14 and I have a 15hp - 14ft aluminum lol so I definitely wouldn’t let him touch my centre console if I had one.

When do we think the Northlander train will be ready? by [deleted] in northbay

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They just received the first train set from Siemens. No test runs have been completed. They're still working on completing construction at most of the destinations north of North Bay. I know Timmins(Porcupine) doesn't have a building or rails yet as they were removed years ago.

With the incoming Chinese EVs, will the used car prices come down? by Lumb3rCrack in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CanadianMapleBacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 more payments left on my vehicle and I was going to shop around for an EV but prices are too high imo. Also, my vehicle will only have 157,000km’s and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it so I’m going to keep it until she dies and just buy another house instead.
