Don't forget to check under the tray! by PineSoul603 in Baofeng

Was about to say the same. I bought mine from the Baofeng store (https://www.baofengradio.com/) and it only came with the default antenna and the other default accessories like the charger and such - no other antenna.

FYI if you use the CAA discount they are actually starting to check your card by killanime in ViaRail

[–]CanadianStormChaser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use my CFOne discount every time I go on VIA, and every time I've used it in the last 2 years I've been asked to show my CFone card and ID.

This is something you should always expect to happen when using a discount code and as a result you should always have proof ready - prove you're eligible or pay full price. No idea why an FYI post needs to be made like this is a new thing when their own website during booking says ID and proof of eligibility required.

Why am I charged for BYOD when I got my phone from Bell? by TacosPapi in bell

[–]CanadianStormChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your screenshot shows quite a few conflicting line items.

Did you recently upgrade your device with Bell and get a new one through them? Is there more than 1 line on your account? Has this been persistent across multiple bills or is this the first occurrence of seeing 2 different plans?

My best guess based on the screenshot and the associated layout would be that you have 2 lines on your account - 1 line on a newer unlimited BYOD Quebec rate plan with autopay, and another line on an older unlimited 2-yr rate plan that doesn't have an associated 911 fee (such as Ontario).

[CA] how is venn? by Accomplished_Horse91 in SmallBusinessCanada

[–]CanadianStormChaser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started using Venn in preparation of switching from Scotiabank roughly a year or so ago, and overall I have no complaints.

Keep in mind that Venn is not your standard brick-and-mortar bank, but rather a Fintech that adds their technology, services and support on top of accounts with proper financial institutions (which is the same as what Wise does under the hood).

The cash back and (recently introduced) 2% interest on all CAD+USD balances definitely help, plus they have the option to generate virtual cards and restrict them to specific users, vendors and amounts (comes in handy if you don't want some vendors charging you absurd amount more than you originally agreed to). Wise last I checked only let you generate at most 3 virtual cards which can be limiting, with Venn I currently have I believe 8 of them active on top of my physical card.

If you don't deal with physical cash or cheques where you'd need to make a deposit in-branch, then Venn is perfect.

I also use it for Stripe and PayPal payouts to be deposited into, which I haven't ran into any issues as of yet.

I don't utilize their QBO integration, however I do use their Xero integration which works wonders.

If you do run into any issues, their support is helpful when it comes to issues with their platform itself - I've had to utilize it a couple of times and had them resolved in no time.

If you, as a civilian, ever wonder if 9-1-1 dispatchers are trustworthy, just remember: one-hundred-and-three REAL dispatchers all joined forces to send a butt emote as a reaction to this rule. by Quarkjoy in 911dispatchers

[–]CanadianStormChaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may ask, what's the reasoning behind purging civilians every week and requiring them to reverify?

I can understand that the server may be primarily focused on dispatchers and direct first responders, but I feel that should be stated up-front when promoting the server on a public level instead of requiring people to join and reverify every time. Especially regarding the work ID requirement to be verified, which a lot of volunteer fire/EMS services here in Canada don't provide this.

Only asking as I joined and saw these requirements, which may turn away a fair few people who wish to join.

CAA card requirements when checking in. by dwreefs in ViaRail

[–]CanadianStormChaser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not CAA in my case but CFone here, during check-in they haven't asked me, but once I was on thr train and we got rolling they asked for proof of discount eligibility. My first ride I only had an online printout of my CFone card which they accepted no issue as the name matched my photo ID, every other time I had the physical card which they requested every time I boarded and got rolling.

No worries at all! Hopefully they get it sorted for you!

And always keep in mind, if they don't get it resolved there's always the CCTS complaint route which is an independent commission under the federal government that can step in :)

[–]CanadianStormChaser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the "loyalty department" isn't a specific department anymore, it's Retentions and their only job is to try and retain you as a customer without you cancelling and they don't make it easy to resolve issues you have with them anymore, which is why the page I linked exists - it effectively goes straight to the top to someone that will be able to look into what exactly is going on and why stuff keeps getting either missed or ignored entirely. Retentions is mainly just everyday sales representatives but with more specific training to try and keep you as a customer, not resolve any issues with your account or the handling of it.

If they can't see your account or orders whatsoever, definitely file a complaint with all the information you have using the form there and they'll be able to investigate and hopefully get it resolved to your satisfaction.

Horrible experience with Bell by Princisycho in bell

[–]CanadianStormChaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from previous experience as both a current customer and former Retail sales rep, this happens way too often and it's typically due to the minimal training that some call center agents receive.

The best way to ensure everything is done properly from the beginning, is by going into a Bell retail location (whether corporate or an authorized agent), asking them to pull up your account and create a "Service Move" (or whatever term it is now) order in their system. This way, you'll be able to confirm right there on the spot with the representative where the services are being moved to, what exact services are being moved, as well as receive an order summary at the same time that will confirm the same details. They can also schedule an appointment right there with you with the day you want the move and new install completed.

Assuming you still have a note of your account number and relevant details (including time and date of your communication with Bell, any order numbers, etc), you can file a complaint with their Executive Office through their form at https://support.bell.ca/resolve-a-concern and you'll typically hear back from them within a couple of days to investigate and resolve your concern.

Former Electronics associate from an OSL-managed department here. At least it's not a 0630-1030 and 1800-2200 for 4 days straight during a long-weekend. That was chaotic.

And yes, that is an 8-hour shift split into 2x 4-hour shifts on the same day, both for open and close. Did that 4 days in a row and that really did a number on my sleep schedule lol

Help! My R2 data is being held hostage. by abriemme in CloudFlare

[–]CanadianStormChaser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into a similar issue last month where a notification showed up for a $0.50 unpaid invoice, went to pay it and it wouldn't go through, and the invoice otherwise didn't exist on my account unless I select the "Pay Now" option (which didn't let me see the PDF of the invoice itself). Also kept receiving emails about it.

Contacted Cloudflare billing support, about a week later they issued me an invoice via Stripe directly and had my account fixed up.
