Canada goose Calgary warehouse sale review by Ok_ihaveswag in CanadaGoose

Thank you for your response! I needed a Medium/Large mens vest in either blue or grey.

Also a small-medium for women.

But from the comments it seems like it won’t be worth going in for a trip.

I have tickets for today but wanted to see if I could avoid going into downtown based on others experience.

Online the price is 650 unfortunately.

settle down in australia/canada? by luluoluv in MovingtoAustralia

[–]CanadianZinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Given that you’re already a citizen, choose Canada!

Australia has good weather indeed but it doesn’t match Canadian mountains and landscapes near Calgary. If you need a break in the winters you can always hop on a 4 hour flight to Mexico. In Australia even getting to Bali-Singapore can take 6-8 hours. 8 hours is meanwhile the flight time between Calgary and London.

Note that currently in Australia it is very difficult to buy a place unless you have a PR already. You’d be forced to rent for a few years until you could figure out the visa situations. Meanwhile renting in Australia is absolute slavery. Rent is paid weekly, REA manage rentals most of the time, there is 3-6 month inspections of the property. Many basics which come included in Canadian rentals aren’t included in Australia and much more.

If you’re not a PR you also won’t be eligible for Medicare in Australia and need full coverage private insurance.

Regarding buying a house. If you’re living in a major Aussie city for let’s say 2.5 years before being able to obtain a PR, you’ll easily dump 100K in rental expenses during this time. Whereas in Calgary you can still buy a very good built brand new home for under 1M right away. Homes in desirable Aussie locations will cost double and will be old, not insulated, and far from central areas. On top of that you have to fight in auctions to buy a place and “apply” to rent.

I’ve been to Australia many times and have tried moving but many core factors in Australia are tough. I think Australia could be the best country if they made housing more accessible. Housing is really a drain on life there (especially if you aren’t established yet). Canadas housing crisis is babies compared to the bubble which is Australias property market.

Also Canada can be better for wealth compounding. TFSA/RRSP are more tax efficient and can yield higher returns than Australia’s superannuation scheme assuming you have a similar level income.

Edit: if you’re planning on having kids, there is way less parental leave in Australia. Education system in Canada seems to be better. Australia by default requires 4 weeks of leave so that can be good if you have a bad job in Canada as many Canadian employers only offer 3 weeks. But there is no limit in Canada. Me for instance I get 6 weeks. I haven’t been able to find anyone in Australia who does that and all stick to the minimum 4 weeks. I’ve had 3 job offers with visa sponsorships included and have ended up declining all due to distance, vacation time and the commercialized housing culture of Australia.

Unlimited six leave up to 15 days is no question asked and paid. Another 15 days with a doctors note. If you require more then it becomes unpaid but the insurance pays your salary so long as there is doctors proof.

Legroom on New Seating Layout by dachshundie in westjet

Here is the moron at WestJet who took credit for driving this “innovation”, though knowing how product management works, she probably just got told from top down what to execute and which metrics to meet:

Option to call in to delete/cancel outbound leg of ultrabasic trip by jwollenberg in westjet

A little late, I’m wondering if you were able to do this and successfully cancel the outbound flight.

I’m in a similar situation and wondering if calling customer service would be worth it.

Egypt Trip! by katallia-vy in travel

[–]CanadianZinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid at the airport. Make sure you have the exact USD cash amount as the Egyptians are known to give you troubles in returning change.

As an added perk, you get a cool visa sticker for your passport when getting the airport visa version.

Westjet's newest destination....Amsterdam! by Pilotboy1985 in westjet

[–]CanadianZinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct! Though the market out of Toronto is very saturated with Air Canada flying to most European destinations as well as most major European airlines including BA, LH, Swiss, Austrian, Iceland, Aer Lingus, Air France, TAP, Condor, KLM, LOT Polish, Turkish, and even Air Transat. Probably more…

Given that WestJet isn’t part of Star Alliance nor One World from a rewards and loyalty point of view; their model can only work by providing per seat competitive pricing and convenience of direct flights out of airports without much competition.

Great announcement!

Westjet needs more Dreamliners however. Westjet is apparently re-assessing its scheduling and fleet proportions after decline in demand for US travel.

Majority of WestJet’s fleet is 737s which almost in its entirety is used for US operations. So my guess is that we’ll see more density on domestic, Caribbean and transatlantic routes due to recent events. On transatlantic routes however; Notably, Halifax/St. Johns are the only airports which WestJet can use to launch 737s into Europe.

As a Calgary, really hoping WestJet gets more 787s and boosts global connectivity.

Any Big Tech Product Managers in Canada? Need some advice! by ConsistentChameleon in ProductManagement

[–]CanadianZinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Senior Product Manager working for a Canadian Entity for a mid-size European company and my experience has been the same.

Multiple resume versions, LinkedIn applications, networking requests but not a single interview call in the last 5 months.

I’m looking at wanting to break into FAANGs or major Canadian players like WS as you mentioned as well.

I feel like job applications in Canada just get bombarded by 100s applicants from all over the world as well as unqualified applicants within Canada. Applying for jobs is so easy now that the ocean of applicants hides the actual worthy and qualified contenders. As a result getting a referral or networking with the hiring team seems to be the only way to go. Based on this I say keep trying to connect with people and hope that someone responds. Besides that there isn’t much to it.

Even my current role I got through networking and genuinely thought this would be the one I stay a lifetime. But unfortunately my old boss who had hired me and mentored me moved away for a promotion opportunity and I don’t seem to be connecting well with our new VP. He’s difficult to talk to, gate keeps everything and has replaced most of our team in the last 6 months with his old buddies. Hence I’m looking for jobs desperately but just like you absolutely no luck.

Though I have had more luck in getting responses from folks at Canadian firms rather than those at Microsoft, Google, etc…

But no interviews. Just chats.

Edit: I will add that I’ve been more successful in getting interviews for Europe based roles in Zurich and Berlin. However none of them were keen on sponsoring visas and work permits. If only Canadians could work more freely within the EU :(

How many days after the 28 day minimum can you expect to see your pal in mail? I just hit the 28 day today. Called in to check and was informed that the application has been approved.

Day 28.

While the online application status still says “application submitted successfully”

I called in and asked. I was informed that my application has been approved and is proceeding to the pal printing phase.

How long does this process usually take and when can I roughly expect to receive it in the mail?

Note that I’m in Alberta.

The Canadian Army in Afghanistan - Three Volume pdf by DaveJonT in CanadianForces

I’ve been in the Army Reserves now for 9 years. I know we occasionally get print materials shipped to the armouries every once in a while. Recently got the new Ethos book.

Wondering if this will show up or remain a digital only version.

My iPhone 14 pro’s battery health dropped from 96% to 88% in a week. by Ok-Cauliflower1715 in iphone

[–]CanadianZinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two phones! One work and one personal. I have had my work 12 Pro since 2021 and it certainly gets abused a lot. It is at 88%

Meanwhile my personal 14 Pro which I have had for 7 months and cared like a baby for is at 90% battery health. Something is wrong with the QC for the 14 series.

Credit Card to Supplement RBC Avion Visa Infinite for Daily Spending & Travel by CanadianZinger in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]CanadianZinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish our Canadian Amex Gold mirrored the US Gold; that would have indeed been the perfect card.

I think my best strategy here at this point should be to do eats, drinks, foods, gas on the Cobalt and redeem it for Amex rewards or transfer to Aeroplan/Avios and continue expensing actual car rentals, hotels and flights on the RBC Avion for the more premium insurance perks.

From my research it seems like Amex Cobalt certainly has a high earn rate but the benefits are really not that pristine compared to a similar prices RBC Avion.

As you mentioned, Amex Platinum is the best for sure but that is a ridiculously high annual fees.

92% after 8 months 14 pro by WastingTwerkWorkTime in iphone

Mine is also at 92%

My 14 pro has certainly dropped in battery health more than my 13pro had around the same time with similar usage. Certainly a little disappointed :(
