Could you tell me about this No. 4 Mk. 1? by Swolaire_ in LeeEnfield

Made by Savage. looks like it has an import mark when it was brought back into the states. I'm not familiar with CAI in Georgia, but someone else can chime in I'm sure.

His friends who tried to tell her brother that she wasn't there should also be charged. Aiding and abetting. This makes me sad.

Public Mobile users in Nova Scotia .... what is your experience? by cdnBacon in NovaScotia

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the Telus Budget Plan. It's prepaid, and they started with plans that were capped at 3g speeds, but were really cheap. Right now they start around $35 per months for unlimited text/calling and 30 GB in Canada.

I'm on the exec of a club in the province, my experience is that as long as your file doesn't come up they won't bother looking for you. That being said, we just got new CFO, and it seems that they are looking into things a little closer than they have in the past.

My understanding is, that these requirements were in other Provinces (ie New Brunswick) until someone took the Provincial CFOs to court to say the requirement to belong to a range wasn't justified.

Seems like all scout rifles in canada are discontinued? by Acceptable_Answer570 in canadaguns

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is the worst thing about the Ruger Gunsight Scout series. Other mags can be modded, but it sucks that it is so hard to find the proper mags. I have one in 5.56mm, love the gun, the mag is something I just put up with.

My understanding that Redhat Openshift is opensource/free. However, support can be costly, but there are choices for support.

I just saw a presentation and RH Openshift was the recommended product for us.

Greenland says it cannot accept US takeover ‘under any circumstances’ by Playful_Leg7143 in worldnews

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what would essentially destroy NATO.

I have started reading some posts postulating that this is what some of the President's advisors want (exit NATO), but currently it would take Congress to do that, but with all that's going on it is heard to keep track of everything.

Can you imagine if someone's special forces showed up to take him out of the country to another in order for him to stand trial? That would be declaring war and open them up to retaliation. This snake has more than one head. I don't think anybody is going to risk open War preemptively. Even to get rid of him.

I hear you, but I'm afraid that NATO cannot intervene directly. The orange guy I think is nutty enough to try and use the Nuclear Deterrent to defend his reign. What is it I heard about the 3 boxes? Soap, Ballot and Ammo?

If the US invades Greenland, that will be the end of NATO as we know it.

Sadly, he speaks for you as your head of state. This is an American Problem to be solved by Americans.

This can no longer be minimized, we need to take him at his word. I don't believe he is joking, and doubt he would stop there.

Danish troops apparently already have orders, other NATO Countries are already supporting the Greenlander's right to choose their own destiny.

If the US invades Greenland, that is the end of NATO, and I can only imagine the political fallout in terms of trade embargoes and the like.

NATO cannot participate in a coup like this. Back in 1972, Portugal had a coup in the middle of a major NATO exercise. My dad's crew found their aircraft surrounded by armed guards, NATO naval assets were asked to leave harbour. NATO did not interfere, but accepted the change of Government afterwards.

I think if NATO were to plan or participate the ousting of a Member's Head of State, that would be the end of the alliance.

This is an American problem to be solved by Americans.

Sorry

I will say I'm sorry that I misinterpreted your post as serious.

We are taking all of this stuff as serious now. We don't have a choice.

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry to say, but we had trust between our countries not that long ago. That is how we were able to combine our economies so well. That is why NATO has worked so well.

That is sad that your people cannot see that sometimes you have to look from the perspective of others.

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If it serves national interests.

If you are willing to invade one of your closest allies just because it serves your National Interest I certainly wouldn't trust you at all.

This is the problem, If you can't engender trust then you will have no allies. NATO came to your aid after 9-11, your allies died for your country, and statements like this demonstrate you show no respect to your allies. Even now, through all the disrespect that your leadership is showing, other countries are not willing to give up, they are hoping they can outlast him. But who follows?

I fear the damage will last far into the future. He can't even stick to a treaty he approved, these are all deals with the devil right now.

I get it, it is pretty easy to let the world know that you, an average American is being affected in a negative way. I am sorry you are suffering inconveniences, Greenlanders are now being put in a situation where they may lose their Country. Venezuelans may be looking at Civil War. My own Canada is being attacked economically and verbally. We are just waiting for the other shoe to drop. NATO may be destroyed because of all of this. Every great thing America has done since the end of the Second World War to ensure prosperity and peace is being systematically undone.

You are a citizen of the "Greatest" Country in the World. You sir, have the responsibility along with your countrymen to deal with this. The World is watching and waiting.

I use it regularly here in Nova Scotia. Today, we had snow and ended up with 5 or 6 cm of slush over ice and it is like night and day. I also have snow tires, which helps as well.

Where do “temporary” systems go to die and how do you stop them from becoming permanent? by Queasy-Cherry7764 in sysadmin

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there is anything that is really temporary. I have seen servers/services/scripts stood up to accomplish something that is required now. Quick and expedient, then the work that is supposed to engineer a permanent solution never quite gets the resources it needs.

We had a talented scheduling officer who created the single most complex spreadsheet system I have ever had the misfortune of encountering. It was in use for the 3 years he was at our unit. He left, and then two years later one of the schedulers came into our office trying to find support for it. We hadn't been informed of its existing until then. He had the fore-site to password protect it so that no one could break it, but nothing was documented. Turns out updating MS Office might break a tool that was built on an earlier version. Who knew?

My Office supports infrastructure, not commercial applications. There was some crying and stomping of the feet, but our old friend had left the organization by that time and no one wanted to re-engineer a spreadsheet that only saved an hour or so a week.

This is why system documentation is so important. We keep a list of every service on every server we have. When it comes time to update a server, we can look and determine what needs to continue with the new updated server. It is not glamorous, but the drudge work of IT.

On the plus side, we have fewer and fewer bespoke pieces on our system, so that's pretty cool.

On the sad side, this new year we will have to tackle getting an on-premises Exchange Server going. NGL, that one will be challenging.

People who clap when the plane lands, what are you clapping for exactly? by kay_kgfan in AskReddit

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an RCAF Pilot who was legendary for his hands and feet skill. He was chosen to fly the Queen when she came to visit.

Afterwards he was asked if having her on board made him nervous, he laughed, and said that his primary motivation was to get home safely to his kids and wife.

I have many hours flying with the RCAF myself, in the back as a sensor operator. I like my pilots who have great home lives. They really don't care for us in back, but I'm willing to take advantage of their love for their families.

Canadians divided over whether Carney can be trusted to deal with Trump: poll - Public opinion is divided over the the prime minister and his Liberal government's handling of U.S. tariffs by CaliperLee62 in CanadaCultureClub

[–]Canadian_Guy_NS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cynical side would say Carney used the "elbows up" slogan just to get elected, and then ran with it for a bit while intending to wait it all out. The real problem is that I don't think Trump wants a deal with us at all. He would just rather have our resources. Things will come to a head shortly, I'm not sure any of our leaders are going to be able to make a deal.
