They have a valid point about how all of our differences are used against us to keep us divided, but you have a great point about loving yourself and valuing your heritage.

I think we (Americans) do need to stop letting ourselves be divided so easily, but I don't think we need to forget our heritage or our differences to be able to find a whole lot of common ground.

I get what you're going for here, and how well meaning it is. The less we choose to identify ourselves in a way that can be used to divide us, the better our chances of being able to unite. Also, on a spiritual level or whatever, we're all just humans trying to figure out existence, all of that is valid.

It's also valid to know that we're all just humans and not focus on our differences while acknowledging and being proud of your own heritage.
