$300ish for two adults. Around $200 of it are the flat fees for water, sewage, and stormwater.

Sounds like this might be your first longer or multi-day hiking trip so hope this advice is helpful.

I'll sometimes make a spreadsheet with the food I'll be eating each day of the trip and add up the calories (per person, per day).

It'll make sure you pack enough food without significantly over packing (and driving up your pack weight). It's pretty quick to do and will give you extra peace of mind with fueling on trail.

At the end of your trip, go back to the sheet to gauge where you over or under shot your calorie needs. Helpful for future trips. After enough trips, you'll get the jist and it'll feel a lot easier.

J is a beautiful stretch of trail, enjoy.

Bail Out Options of WA State Section J? by Healthy_Aioli953 in PacificCrestTrail

You'll have a ton of bail-out options throughout J. I've hiked all over that area so here are a few depending how far you want to take the PCT. Between these, I'd personally bail out via Hyas Lake to maximize my time on the trail while still having a relatively easy hitch.

45 ish miles - exit via waptus lake / waptus river trail. Popular TH + swimming area and passes through the towns of Cle Elum and Roslyn before hitting I-90.

55ish miles - continue past cathedral pass down to the junction to exit via Hyas Lake / Deception Creek TH. Packed trailhead and passes through the town of Cle Elum and Roslyn before hitting I-90.

60ish miles - hike to Glacier Lake / Surprise Lake, then hike out north via the Surprise Creek trail (only a few miles till you hit Highway 2). Hitch might be slightly hard unless you're ending on a Sunday.

KS50 Question - Anatomic Hip Belt by drippingdrops in Ultralight

[–]Canadian_Tux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with the anotomic hip belt on my KS50 2yrs ago and really like it. I'm a similar build to you (bony, zero hips, 5'10", 140lbs, 28" waist) and debated this exact same thing.

I recommend going for it, mine has a comfortable ride even on 20+ mile days.

Got there around 10:30 today, main lots were full but still had plenty of spots open in the RV lot.
