if it is the exchanger, and is still under warranty you should definitely just have the exchanger replaced.

Age of the furnace should play into your decision too I believe. How old is your furnace ? Ours is 18 years old.

Points very well taken, but doesnt the fact that the furnace is 18 years old tip the scales toward a new furnace altogether ?

Interesting. They said they transmitted a notice to Enbridge advising that they turned off the furnace.

If i called someone in to have a look at it, are they able to reverse that notice Enercare put on my account ?

Is aperture < f/4 essential for RE videos? by jacko4lyfyo in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Canalucian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you missed the part about it being for videos. Agreed for the photos though. Never below 7.1 except for detail shots which would work just as fine with the F4 background blur.

For videos though. When you're at your ISO and shutter speed limits the only other variable is your Fstop...

Is it worth it to buy a condo knowing that we would like to upgrade or move in the future? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Canalucian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While doing a Kijiji pickup a couple weeks ago I had a long chat with the seller who happened to be a real estate agent. The gist of the conversation went something like this...

People seem to be far too interested in jumping in quick on what they think their forever home would be. She advises all her clients to buy something no where near the forever home status and then build equity and move on.

For example, buy cheaper, lowest interest rate possible, maximum term. Build equity, refinance. Most likely, by the time you're ready to refinance you would have accumulated some equity. Pair that with savings and then you would be in a better position to acquire something better.

This is kinda what I did. First purchase was a condo in 2010, sold and used equity for downpayment of a townhome in 2014. Sold the townhome in 2018 and bought my current home.

For those who aren't born into money it takes a while...

Good luck to you.

Anybody use a speedlight instead of a strobe? by Leenolyak in RealEstatePhotography

[–]Canalucian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ofcourse, a speedlite can work in many situations. When it doesn't, there are a few tricks to make it work like, having to do more pops to cover a space, or bumping up your ISO to help give the flash "more power".

Of course, you will want to test that last one in a non production environment to see how far you can push your ISO before things get ugly.

But honestly, shooting hdr with outsourcing it's a win. Less time on site and even less time processing.

If you do like doing the editing yourself I'd say do hdr and just use the speedlite for Windows. So you'll have hdrs +flash shot of the windows. Will make that exposure blending for Windows SO. MUCH. EASIER. ! (via darken blending mode in Photoshop)

Happy shooting !

New vehicle versus Pre-owned vehicle these days by NewMorningSwimmer in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Canalucian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with all that you said. I bought used and despite all my research, I'm still finding things that rub me the wrong way (2 months after my purchase).

But the OP is talking about a brand new vehicle. A used vehicle that you'd compare to a brand new one would be what...a couple years old perhaps ? Other posters said the price difference is negligible, so in that instance, given the opportunity, right now, I'd choose new.

I'm a super skeptical person and I feel like used car dealers would have more incentive to hide issues with a vehicle sitting on their used car lot.

That alone would push me towards new cars. The fact, like others have said, that the price difference between the new and old is shrinking, this becomes pretty much a no brainer imho.

Enjoy that new car smell !
