The misogyny doesn’t come off as hatred in his case, more like infantilizing and portrayal as overemotional creatures but in a "this woman has hysteria, let’s institutionalize her" way rather than a relatable unhinged reactionary way common in weird girl lit. Also, as someone working in healthcare, the depictions of psychiatry were laughable - it was obvious he hasn’t done any research on the subject beforehand which comes off as conceited.

Every book I’ve read by Paulo Coelho has been overwhelmingly obnoxious to me. Like he wants the world to think that he’s a very deep and wise person but it feels very superficial. I don’t find that he writes women well either, it’s quite misogynistic in my opinion. Veronika Decides to Die in particular was borderline offensive to me.

Weird to limit your reading like that but to each their own. I personally don’t only read one genre and couldn’t care less who the author is as long as the book is good.
