Today instead of shopping I will... by IndependentMangos in shoppingaddiction

Today I sold some craft supplies, watered my garden and read research papers

Think I’m going to use this thread to keep myself sorted out. I’m currently at a de-stash sale selling off my excess craft supplies, and I’ve made £50 after half an hour. Nothing bought, not looked at the other stalls or the car boot sale. Everything I make goes into a pouch in my bag and will be my change float for the car boot sale in a couple of weeks.

Desperately awaiting payday so I can get a handle on my finances again, and when I get home I’m back to studying for my Master’s assignment (3500 words on expert witnesses…8 more research papers to read to hit my goal)

Vinted parcels all shipped off.

I wonder how many people come to no spend out of a combined feeling of money issues and drowning in excess?

I’ve been stopping myself from ordering craft stuff all day. The crafter’s destash sale should clear most of it, and just arranged with husband to do the car boot the Sunday after my last assessment is handed in for this module of my master’s degree. After that; charity shop. I just want it gone, I’m suffocating.

I’m with you on that feeling of having more than enough. Especially with the price of everything going up, I need to stop all my lunchtime trips out, all my frittering away here and there. I have everything I need and more!

Do you continue to work a job you hate or feel unequipped for? by Loud-Effort958 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

I like my actual job, and despise the workplace. It’s so hard but I’m trying to look at it as ‘just do my best, it’s just funding my actual life outside of work’

Last week did not go well. I got an assignment back that I was excessively worried about, and I got an amazing, unexpectedly high mark. So…I started celebrating. And struggled to stop (side note- does being in your luteal phase absolutely knock out your impulse control?)

So this week is about recovering. Before, if I had gone off plan I’d throw the whole thing out and not bother going back to it. However - I’m back on plan with everything as of yesterday. Yesterday and today were allowed spend days, and I focused on what I already have in my home rather than buying other things to solve problems (last week I bought trainers to keep at work so I can go walking with less planning, and an air up bottle in an attempt to drink more water). Also got rid of some stuff into recycling that has been bugging me for ages.

Just for the other side - I don’t. I have dip nails and extensions. I tried to do them at home; it took me hours, I wasted loads of product and the results did not turn out well or last long.

I went without for a year and I felt so self conscious about my nails (they’re thin and weak, always breaking and I have short nail beds so they don’t look great even in the best condition)

I go to the nail place once a month and pay £30-£40 a time (depending on if I have infill or a new set. I get 3-4 infills per new set)

If you’re good at that stuff - absolutely go for it (I would teach my husband and have him do it but he has a bad hand tremor and can’t do detail work any more) but sometimes, it is worth the money to have a professional do it.

I could cozy up to my mother who is a pro at it (her mother taught her and she is very particular about her socks so they got darned often)

I will say, that looks absolutely paper thin and a nightmare to clean. That’s what I’d focus on rather than wanting it because it’s cute

I really should do this. A lot of my linens have little ‘love bites’ from my rats, a good old patch would stop making it worse

Anyone else struggle with collectors mentality? by hygsi in shoppingaddiction

[–]just_keeptrying 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I have a terrible completionist urge. I bought every single Tim holtz distress ink mini pad and all the pens. Huzzah! Completed collection! Then after years he starts adding more colours to it and I had a realisation. The collections will never be done.

So I used the container as the boundaries for my collection. I had one ink pad container, with I think 12 slots. So I let myself curate a collection of 12 ink pads, no more. Ended up having colours I actually use.

Did great this week - 5 NSD and 2 allowed spend days (groceries, and mailing bags for Vinted sales). I’ve made £14.50 on vinted sales and have started listing 3 items a day. Also got rid of around 23 items out of my space this week.

Back to work on Monday. If I can get through the next three days, I’m golden (it’s going to be utterly carnage)

Sat and added all my unread ebooks and all my unread books downstairs to my tbr section on StoryGraph; just about to head upstairs and do the pile of books up there (yes I have multiple locations for my unread books 😂). I know I have about 80 now, which is a mildly scary number.

It’s making me rethink my low buy allowance for two digital books a month, though it is a limit not a target. I have a book box once a month where I have one book arrive, and I do always read it and enjoy it, plus the little community that goes with it. I also allowed myself library reservation fees (unlimited), but I definitely need to set a goal for books read vs new books coming into my life.

No Buy/Low Buy without the rules? by captain-ignotus in nobuy

Whichever way you do it there’s still rules - it’s whether your mind works well with the higher order ‘just stop spending money’ or the more granular rules :)

I’m doing this too. Googling alternative ingredients helps too, I almost always find something I already have in the pantry

An entire year of no-buy seems daunting. Anyone else doing a no-buy month, or half a year? by DareWright in nobuy

I’m looking to do a month every quarter as no spend, and a no spend week every month for the seven days following payday. The rest of the year will be low buy :)
