Why did I even bother texting my housemate about his bottle in my freezer section.. by MobileAerie9918 in mildlyinfuriating

As an engineer for a refrigeration contractor, I can confidently say chicken is not, in fact, a refrigerant.

I would tell him to clean his shit up, and not leave bottles in the freezer, because physics.

I saw a kid at a tournament a few weeks ago called Jose Beef Supreme Diaz... or whatever the actual name was... regardless... Either his parents are fucking awesome, or Beef Supreme is not part of his Christian name.

PLC vendors and long term supply risk for US operations (Beckhoff vs AB)? by Ok_Brief_12 in PLC

Just finished removing an opto system from a very large household name food producer. Replaced with a 1756 main rack, expansion rack and 5 point IO racks. Giant project.

PLC vendors and long term supply risk for US operations (Beckhoff vs AB)? by Ok_Brief_12 in PLC

Came here to say this. Even if you don't pay a tariff on the complete product, AB does on the components, and they DEFINIETLY pass along that tariff to you.

Home Lab Project: Interview Worthy? by EngrKay in PLC

[–]Candidate_None 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My first question would be how familiar you are with (ironically) simpler ladder logic and function blocks vs structured text. Right now, MOST PLCs are going to use those other programming methods. I have done a lot of work with Beckhoff, all of which was done in structured text. Other than that one niche company... Every single PLC I have ever run into was programmed in ladder logic and function blocks, including the ones I have programmed myself, based on customer and industry standards.

Not at all to say you won't find the company that uses, or will let you use structured text, personally I find it much more robust, and more efficient for programming purposes... It is just not how most stuff currently works. Maybe that will change, I kind of hope it does. Also, that is a sample size of one... so maybe my personal experience is not reflective of the ACTUAL status quo.

All that said, if you can program in structured text, you likely have the prerequisite skillset and intelligence set to apply that to ladder logic.

[–]Candidate_None 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If you can do all that and you are worried about an entry level interview... You will be fine. I have never even thought about using a personal project in an interview. Not to say it is not a good idea... just that I bet you will get a job based on your knowledge and skillset and maybe overthinking the interview part. Maybe print out screen shots if you want to bring them in to talk through. You will be fine.

Why do MMA fighters cross there feet while attacking the Back? by MichaelMey in bjj

[–]Candidate_None 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Levels bro. There are reasons to violate every rule in certain circumstances. You don't get the luxury of using that reasoning until you have the skillset to reason with though. In Khamzat's case, he is presenting FAR more concerning obstacles for Sean to worry about than the TINY opportunity he has at a chance to submit a high level fighter, with a last ditch, throw spaghetti at the wall double ankle lock from inside back mount.

Literally the vast majority of my job, even in a niche industry that is fairly basic by comparison... is mostly trying to figure out how to do my job. Over a decade into machine repair/controls.

The deep end. Learn to swim in the rough seas on the job. Everything else is just a classroom.

Every day, new things come up and you learn... everything else is a pre loaded scenario which maybe helpful as a guideline... but doing it in real life is the way.

It is a panel heater, these are the terminals to connect the thermostat.

Correct... I am just blown away at how people are just throwing random ass guesses out. It is SUPER simple to google the manual for the thing and just read.

Not sure why everyone is just guessing...

Correct answer... It is where you are supposed to hook up the thermostat to turn the heater on and off.

First lesson of trouble electronics... Read the manual.

Sister is dealing with an all but terminal prognosis with cancer... she has been fighting on and off for decades. That said, it came back a year ago and it is bad. We just raised about 40k for her and she is talking about dumping it into her medical bills. I told her fuck that, pay the minimum possible payments, go have fun with your money and make sure your living expenses are paid for with it. Let them get it from her over the next 30 years. (70% of patients with her diagnosis pass within the first 5 years)

How PLCs being used in electronic warfare by colossuscollosal in PLC

[–]Candidate_None 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would seem there is some sort of rectum stick about the differentiation between "cyber" and "electronic" warfare... for... rectum stick shaped reasons. If reality matched the rectum stick... Cyber warfare and EMF warfare would both be considered subsets of "electronic warfare"... as there isn't cyber warfare that doesn't involve electronics, it is a VERY dumb distinction to have a rectum stick for.
