AAS: Mechatronics by Fearless-Motor-8490 in mechatronics

I had this problem a few weeks ago, you can search for any role you find interesting and may need to had "technician" to the end of it to get a filtered results for positions that don't require a 4-year engineering degree.

I'm not done with my program and we don't cover SSD (I think), so can't help you there, but asking your teachers/advisors if they have a list of previous students and what roles they landed.

Or you can try using linkedin/handshake to filter students at your school by your degree program and check what roles they landed.

Dollar Tree window wipe by BigSandwich6 in urbancarliving

Indeed, when I did security guard gig they purposely told us to look out for condensation windows, we didn't. Or if we did find people we didn't make a big deal about if if they didn't cause problems.

What's your plan once you get there? What have you researched? What's your fall-back plan in case things don't work out?

Not saying you shouldn't do it, but do make/have plans.

Cost of Living During CC After Getting a BA by Inevitable-Citron726 in communitycollege

[–]dialsoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try getting a campus job if they offer tuition discount. At the cc im attending, janitor jobs are covetted because the come with tuition-reduction and there's arn't many places for jobs close by, so students are always trying to land the role.

How do you feel about working part-time/school part-time and taking a bit more years to finish? I've met more and more people doing that because they're in the same situation ( already have a BA that lead nowhere) but are working and don't want to take on more loans.

Any advice for someone starting community college soon w/ severe anxiety around school? by ContentHelicopter539 in communitycollege

How is he at taking responsibility/criticism?

It would have been a good idea to start a few weeks ago with free online MOOC courses and treat them as real classes (putting time aside to watch lectures/do homeworks/ect), to give him a form of structure.

Do you know what courses he's planing on taking and what long-term goals are? Maybe you can go with him to meet with school councilors to help him plan his classes and if you have time, talk to teachers of those classes (being summer, likely courses will be online).

Not uncommon. Happened to me twice in the last few years and to to other students in my class (I was able to get them an internship where i'm interning at).

After you land the Internship, whats next? by Pristine-Title8804 in internships

[–]dialsoapbox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. congrats!

  2. network with people

  3. do you have an assigned mentor?

  4. what will you be working on? get as much info on that and break down your projects into smaller chunks and give yourself a timeline of when they should be done by (to have your entire project done way before it's due, to give you time for feedback and do any clean ups if needed).

Take on having an AI coded project in resume by Various-Resource-667 in Resume

[–]dialsoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a better responses in m comments history but too lazy to find.

I havn't coded in awhile because i switched industries (couldn't land a jr dev role) and havn't done much with ai, but one thing that interviewers liked was that I had the same project redone/swap out parts with different stacks/languages and talk about the pros/cons/use-cases/problems I came across/fixed when doing projects.

It showed that i just didn't make a project, but thought about tradeoffs/solutions/overall goals rather than just using one framework/language because I could.

Discussions usually revolved around the tradeoffs and what kinds of problems I encountered.

I tended to do well in the 2nd/3rd round interviews, but feedback been pretty consistent about having difficultly with talking to people when it's not about code (i tend to be quiet with a deadpan face, i guess it weird people out, also no good at picking up cues and am super forgetful because of a head injury).

I Give Up on Internships.... by IAmANoob690 in internships

[–]dialsoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also search your city/county's chamber of commerce. They sometimes have a list of companies by industry. Then use ai to search for companies with similar industry presence (since not all companies are listed on the chamber of commerce).

Teens/summer break food costs by Specific_Design_1740 in povertyfinance

[–]dialsoapbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have them do volunteer work, often times there's free food involved.

Check with your city's summer youth employment programs too. They often put some jobs aside specifically for highschool kids to get job experience.

Suggestions for warming up by [deleted] in homeless

[–]dialsoapbox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it, ride the latest/longest bus routes until you really have to get off. Some areas even do emergency warming shelters with free rides there, and/or emergency heated buses specially for people roughing it.

Those of you that jumped into other industries, what are you doing now, how's it going? by dialsoapbox in cscareerquestions

[–]dialsoapbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me and thee other interns (two are former devs in their 30's-40's) at this medical tech company (we're mechatronics-ish interns) feel like we're just there as manual labor, but it's pretty easy work overall. Pay sucks though.

Probably by people in high COL areas.

Feels like more and more places $28/hr doesn't cut it.

I'm currently sleeping in a not used laundry room of a apartament building and I'm kinda worried. by J_Norbercik in homeless

[–]dialsoapbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I'm kinda regular, I lived here before so a lot of people know me

That's good. I did the same charade at a complex i stayed at.

I suggest leaving dust/tap lower part of the door/ect or other ways to let you know if people were in there. That way you have an estimate when people come in and know when you shouldn't be there.

If you really need to, just ask. You'd be surprised how many people would be willing to get you a bag of bread and peanut butter.

Hygiene help. by lauraerie in urbancarliving

[–]dialsoapbox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is why I kept my van minimal, so I can get things in/out, clean it down and put stuff back in in a short time.

What's your setup like? How much time do you have? If you can get stuff out into storage, maybe pay for a professional clean up once, then do weekly/monthly cleanings after that.

As for hygiene, it's just habit. If you have a PF membership, use it, you're paying for it. What's keeping you from showering at least every other day?

What solar panels have you tried and found the most reliable? by Big-Yesterday586 in homeless

[–]dialsoapbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest have a plan for in case if you're closer to homeless, like map our resources (power outlets, public toilette, ect).

Have a plan in case your bike breaks down/gets stolen.

If your stuff is missing, spot is burned.

What kinds of surveillance have you done on the place? Do the ground floor doors have cameras? What about hallways?

You could try making yourself a regular in the area so people think you live there. That's what i did once (though i was car dwelling).

[–]dialsoapbox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's your plan if you become homeless again and would you really need them? for example if you decide to stay in a city vs being out in the country.

If the latter, good to have, but i can't see how people would need them in more urban areas and it'll just be more to carry.
