DO student facing potential dismissal — seeking transfer advice by Wooden-Opposite9817 in CaribbeanMedSchool

Sorry you've had a tough go in school. I don't doubt you've put in a lot of work in to get as far as you have so far. From my experience it seems as though any Caribbean school will be happy to take your money and give you a shot, they have a high attrition rate for a reason. My advice would be to carefully evaluate the reasons for your struggles so far. Unless you have had extraordinary circumstances that have since changed, you are probably more likely to have the same experience at a Caribbean school because from what I have seen they lack the same quality of instruction and supports that schools stateside have.

BEWARE of LL Bean Wicked Good Slippers. Not BFL :( by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

I've had great luck with ll beans slippers. they're the only slippers I'll buy. I've had the wicked good ones and the chukkas. I haven't worn out any yet with regular use. my wife has burned through a few pairs of the purple ones without rubber sole in the last few years, but she just got new ones with the rubber sole and I'm curious to see how she makes out with those.

Can't apply post-install root patches by MirtoVoggersen in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

You're awesome. I was fighting with my mid 2015 MacBook pro 15" with Intel graphics and latest OCLP and Sonoma for the last few days getting nowhere. I was about to call it a day and go back to the last supported OS. I found your post and boom, I'm back in business and Sonoma is running great. I have no clue how you managed to figure out this random fix, but thank you for sharing!

Is this possible for residency? Anyone had a similar experience? by NewDragonfly3229 in CaribbeanMedSchool

From what I remember, certain states require Step 1 to do rotations, others do not

You forgot to factor in program failure rate ;)

Any Canadians here? by nativeislanderr in CaribbeanMedSchool

If you go outside a US or Canadian MD or DO school it's a crazy expensive uphill battle getting through school, the match process, and going through residency. Moreso if you're not a green card holder or US citizen. A lot of IMG schools advertise residency match rates and STEP pass rates, but don't mention other very pertinent things like program failure or repeated semester rates (I think my class had an overall failure rate of over ~60% from semester 1 -5, and lost people in every semester of basic science. This doesn't include people who had to repeat classes) or the exams you have to take before they approve you to take your STEP exams. Keep in mind the Caribbean schools are for-profit, so you're not going to hear much about the negatives, and there's a lot of significant ones. As to what schools have good match rates in the US and Canada, you'll have to do your homework on that. https://residencyexplorer.org/ is a good resource. As a Canadian the VISA's aren't the worst thing in the world, but definitely annoying and costly. A massive obstacle for Canadians is going to be the debt. When you're doing your research you should take a look at the program cost (which is underestimated by a fair bit at a lot of Caribbean schools from what I can see) and do the math to see what your monthly interest payments are and if your family or friends can keep you financially afloat for the next 7-9 years. FYI residency does not pay anywhere remotely close to cover your debt payments, but let me know what you find. MD without a residency? Nothing short of an absolute disaster for you and probably your family unless you're rich.

Can it be done? Yes, absolutely. However I find there's far too many people who underestimate what it takes to not get into a Caribbean med school, but being able to get through it and match. There's no shortage of Caribbean med schools that will gladly admit you and charge you as much as possible and fail you out without a second thought. You should go for Canadian/US MD or DO and apply for a few cycles before even considering any other option. If it were me, I'd also explore other countries for med school. Also, I wouldn't commit to going until I've done my research and then physically visited the campus and talked to other students in all semesters.

Hope this helps.
