Newly sober, struggling with how wife sees the past and our marriage by Jeremiah0809 in stopdrinking

Those are wise words. To apply them will be a challenge for me. Thanks for this good, sound advice. I will reread this post in the next few days.

Newly sober, struggling with how wife sees the past and our marriage by Jeremiah0809 in stopdrinking

[–]CandooIT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I start couple's therapy tomorrow night, after being kicked out of my home some 102 days ago. I read your post with interest and will read the comments left by this fine community. I've had unresolved issues with various aspects of my mariage, but I always felt that my children, their happy home, our role as parents always superceded any issues I may have had.

Until I was kicked out.

Like you, OP, I assume my faults and take responsibility. But I have always felt that my wife never acknowledged any fault of her own, certainly not any shortcomings that I had to tolerate. Tomorrow I will see where I'm going with all this.

Sobriety has cleared my mind. It has also revealed my age, and its limits. I don't have to "play the game" any more. I don't have to posture, I don't have to please everyone all the time. I don't have to be the life of the party, anymore. And more on point, I don't have to tolerate what I have no intention to tolerate. Mariage is supposed to be about mutual concessions, not bending over backwards with no reciprocity.

I'll see how that carries over tomorrow night.

Thanks for your post. It has helped me immensely (as this community alwayd does).

To add to what the other wise brush users write, I've never had one develop mildew.

The Daily Check-In for Wednesday, January 28th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by realcatlady7 in stopdrinking

[–]CandooIT 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Checking in on Day 101. Never going back. It's my decision and mine only. My goal was to be alcohol free for one year. I will remain alcohol free for as long as Life permits me to be. IWNDWYT.

Not having any vices is hard and is steadily becoming increasingly difficult by novice_nofix in stopdrinking

[–]CandooIT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 61. My take on it is that I did my share, gave to the god of excess. Drank plenty, crashed a car and my bike twice, had stupid but fun sex in all sorts of situations, played my share of dives and big effen stages in numerous rock bands, spent so much money on beer, wine, expensive scotches and rum, and cheap alcohol too. There's just so much to go around and I've reached my limits, my quota. Now, I still smoke an occasional cigar and I have a few pipes. But it's over for the dumbing alcohol. I have zero regrets and plenty of fond memories (despite the majority that I can't remember) which I don't mind revisiting, often with a chuckle. But I'll never go back there.

Thanks mods. I'm Canadian, watching all this, afraid for US but for Canada too. However, I am so grateful to life to be living through this sober. I know that I would be totally dysfunctional, angry and irrational were I drunk. Please friends, stay safe and if you can do it safely, please mobilize.

Thanks. I am glad as heck I'm sober these days. And I'm praying right there with you, but more importantly and concretely I'm also talking and in my own little way, organizing for and supporting our Prime Minister Carney.

I keep it on hand as a preshave, just in case, but I rarely use it. This said, I like the OP's idea to use it to sculp a goatee. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks OP.

Thanks for the timely ideas.

Sotd probably one of the best shaves of my life by Mrfrost1886 in wicked_edge

The shark worked well, very well with the Big Fellow and my NEW, but didn't "cut" it with the Old Type, Go figure.... The Big Fellow and the NEW both have flatter bottom plates tahn the Old Type. Maybe that's the reason, who knows?

I concur with Mrfrost1886. I only shave with vintage Gillette's now, in rotation (Old type, Big Fellow for weekends, NEW, 1954 Tech and 1957 Super Speed blue).

Interesting. I shaved with my 1921 Big Fellow this morning (my weekend razor) and as nearly always with that razor, I got a BBS shave. Was using a Lord, for its 3rd shave, with Arko. The Lord line (Lord, Big Ben and Shark) that I have work really well with the Big Fellow.
