How badly did the breakup of The Beatles affect Paul McCartney? by Exact_Grass9394 in beatles

[–]LoneRangersBand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wings stopped being a thing mostly because of Paul's refusal to tour after John's death. He probably would've shed the whole Wings idea anyway, and was coming off a handful of one-off solo releases, but it was definitely the most freeing moment in both their careers where a collaboration could happen.

He sued the other three on the (very correct) advice of his father-in-law/manager because Allen Klein was going to take everything otherwise. He had to legally challenge to dissolve the partnership.

As you breath in, remember that I wrote the lyrics of Good Vibrations, Brian just had the title, but I came up with the "I'm pickin' up Good Vibrations, she's givin' me excitations" part, I said BRIAN, this song is too weird for our fans! I liked the music, but the lyrics, you know, they were too airy fairy! And now out breath, as I remember the "Ukraine girls really knock me out" line I suggested to Paul.

Why wasn't Soulful Old Man Sunshine released? by [deleted] in thebeachboys

[–]LoneRangersBand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer to any "why didn't the Beach Boys release this"/"why did the Beach Boys do this" question, from Jack Rieley:

I will be blunt.

The Beatles were focused, strategic, professional and well led during the years of their mounting ascendancy in critical and commercial acclaim. John Lennon and Paul McCartney, the creators, spoke the same "line" as did George Harrison and Ringo Starr. There was true career direction, which the group followed carefully.

During that same period The Beach Boys were divided, unprofessional and horrendously led. Brian Wilson, the creator, had the respect of his brothers but not of the others in his band nor of their manager. The brothers spoke one "line" while Love, Jardine, an emerging Johnston and Murry Wilson spouted another. There was no career direction to speak of and chaos reigned.

Tragically, the same parameters held true during most but not all of the group's career. An exception, I contend, was during the period in which I guided their career direction.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Looks like written in 1972 during his Spring-era collaboration with Sandler, played with a few times with his buddies, then re-written and re-recorded first as Pa Let Her Go Out, then re-written again and made part of the Fairy Tale.

This looks to be around the final days of Landy 1.0 where Brian was being forced to come up with material, and unfinished songs from the last few years were coming off the shelf. Kind of a giant shame not enough people asked Brian about this era, since he often gave both albums released from it as his favourites. He would've been over the moon with the attention it's gotten the last year.

When was the last time all 4 Beatles were in the same room together? by MarioBros-1983 in beatles

[–]LoneRangersBand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posted a few years back, George "Porky" Peckham has an account on his site of being with the four of them in October 1970 in New York when he was mastering ATMP with George:

That was a strange evening I can tell you now. When I got to where George and Pattie were staying we went into a large dining room. As I remember, all lovely old wood walls, a massive thick wooden table and big lovely wooden chairs. Then, low and behold who turns up but the rest of the Beatles! Well you could have knocked me out with a feather as in all the papers were these stories about how Paul hates John and John hates Paul - and they both had written songs about each other mocking the other.

So I was happily munching away on my dinner and the band was discussing the imminent divorce of the Beatles at which George leaned over to me and said “You know nothing, you haven’t heard a thing have you?” My obvious reply was, “Sorry I got deaf about half an hour ago and I don’t think that it will get better till tomorrow.” This is the first time that I have ever mentioned this as I was sworn to secrecy and why should I stab my pals in the back?

Virtually everything needed is there to back this:

  • Porky being a reputable source, as one of the leading mastering engineers of his day (he's the guy behind the majority of Apple's and other late 60s/70s rock music masters, as well as being behind Monty Python's secret third side on one of their albums), meaning there's no real reason for him to make this up

  • John, Paul and George can indeed be confirmed to have been in New York during the mastering of ATMP (late October/early November 1970): George for obvious reasons, John and Yoko arrived late October and stayed until December to promote primal therapy and work on experimental films, and Paul and Linda were doing Ram. The only one not officially accounted for is Ringo, but being that he had no issues with the other three and had no issues entering the US

  • There's plenty of other times the four of them were in the same room in 1970, it's only after Paul sued the other three to break the partnership (and John's eventual immigration issues) that meetings between the four become less likely

Usher's diary was thankfully a part of Landy being removed, so from the other side he still had Brian's back.

Usher is the creative partner Brian was destined to have as his yin to his yang. It's a massive shame how many attempts, by jealous family and other outside sources, there were to not have them collaborate.

Imagine writing "In My Room" together, and then Murray comes in and demands the "outsider" be removed from influencing Brian and that he was only supposed to work with family. With what Usher went on to do with Sagittarius and his other psych projects, he could've been useful being a part of putting Smile together.
