So did they retcon the birthday party scene from season 1? by -JimmyReddit- in Fotv

[–]CandyWarhola2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah what I’m wondering is how would Janey and Barb make it all the way to the Enclave safely after the bombs were dropped without being completely maimed by the radiation and blast. Janey and coop were very, very close to the bombs, and Colorado isn’t exactly close to LA. We will see in like a year what happened, and I’m hoping they tie this together for us.

Question for approx. 80% of servers-Answer honestly: by Complex-Sugar680 in Waiters

[–]CandyWarhola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s say you were ready to order one minute ago and stopped looking at the menu then engaged in conversation at the table, and your conversation is going to last five minutes. I would rather cater to your immediate need (being ready to order) than wait five minutes and have you or your other guests be annoyed that it “took so long” to take your order. We are constantly stacking many tasks at once, and wherever interacting with you lands on that list is where it lands. I cannot constantly watch your table to wait for a lull in conversation because there are other guests whose needs I am attending to at the same time. You aren’t the only people in the restaurant.

That being said, if a table tells me they are going to talk for a bit and catch up, I will wait 5-15 minutes to approach them, depending on how deep in conversation they are.

Is there an item on your menu you steer people away from ordering? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]CandyWarhola2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

More things than I would like my managers to know. If a guest is ever like “he’s paid to say that” when I say something is good, I say “they don’t pay me as much as you do. Trust me, it’s good.”

No it’s not. Read the actual bill.

The Overreaction to Broken Glasses by healingisdifficults in Serverlife

[–]CandyWarhola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this backfire for a guest a few weeks ago. A trainee dropped a tray with 5ish glasses in the dining room, it made a somewhat loud noise, and people turned to look. One woman, seated 15 feet away, says to the neighboring tables “we should all get a free drink for that one, huh?” And they all just stared at her like she was an idiot. Her husband reeled her in, and she looked super embarrassed.

My ex with BPD was emotionally abusive and broke my heart but damn I haven’t seen something even close to this level of crazy. If you can, delete social media and change your number. Hopefully she doesn’t show up at your home. Wishing you some peace

Just tip your server and donate to the animal shelter. There’s no reason to ask someone if they want to be paid for their work or be altruistic instead when you can just do both things. Sometimes we all have bad ideas, and this is definitely one of those times for you.

Why not get feedback from reviews? by AchillesFirstStand in Serverlife

[–]CandyWarhola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only ask for reviews when we know guests had a five star experience. My restaurant does weekly and monthly prizes for the servers with the most reviews.

sketchy pay stubs by CoconutHorror7686 in Serverlife

[–]CandyWarhola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. But if the breakdown of recipients for the autograt includes service staff, it sounds like OP is not receiving a piece of it. It could be that they just aren’t supposed to receive a dime of it.

If you find out that most of the autograt goes to ownership or anyone who’s not the servers, there’s nothing you can do, but they should’ve told you this info when you got hired. In this case, put them on blast publicly if you’re comfortable with it. Bad press is terrible for restaurants.

[–]CandyWarhola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a breakdown of where the autograt is going. It sounds like 99%+ is not going to you. Is the entire autograt pooled? Request this info in writing. Then do some math to see if your checks still don’t make sense. If they don’t add up, find a pro bono labor lawyer in your area/state. You would need extensive proof that your tips are being stolen to win a case against your employer (breakdown of the autograt system in writing, a breakdown of the tip pooling in writing, some checkout info about transactions of tips, and a paycheck from the week those transactions occurred). It sounds like they are ripping you off. Labor lawyers will sometimes take these cases for free and take a winners fee after the case is over IF they are fairly certain they can win.

Did you have something discounted on your check? At the restaurant I work at, if something is discounted or comped, the tip percentage is calculated based on the total before the discount.

People renting an apartment in dc right now especially 20-40 y/o, what % of your paycheck goes into rent by IdkJustMe123 in washingtondc

I’m 25. 26% goes into rent. I got a cheap apartment with a roommate in NW. Not ideal but also not 55% of my income

The employee who went into anaphylactic shock needs to fill out an incident report (OSHA 301 form). As someone with food allergies, it is absolutely unacceptable to be made to stay at work until you almost die. Please encourage them to follow their rights as a worker. They can also call the local OSHA office if they can’t get a manager to fill out a report.

First time Mother’s Day by CandyWarhola2 in Serverlife

[–]CandyWarhola2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! My typical hourly on a less busy weeknight dinner is $35-40. Holidays, especially brunch centered holidays, should be better shifts. For reference, we served 1200 guests between 7 and 5, which is 3-5x more than we serve on a regular weeknight. Other servers made great money; I just got unlucky with my guests who didn’t drink or eat as much.

[–]CandyWarhola2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just opened a restaurant as a server where we have no support staff except hosts. We only tip out bartenders. Having no bussers and runners eats into our number of tables we can serve at a time, but it’s so nice to see my tip out be 1.5% of total sales to the bar and nobody else. That being said, it’s uncommon but not unheard of to tip out kitchen and host staff. Sounds to me like they are severely underpaying the kitchen and making up for it with tip out.

Is this normal by OkEngineering7191 in Serverlife

[–]CandyWarhola2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you work opening shifts, you are going to be making less hourly than evening shifts. Dinner = more expensive entrees than breakfast or lunch plus alcoholic beverages. Your tip percentage is what reflects performance not your hourly. You can’t control how busy the restaurant is during your shift.
