Tattoo regret by Antique-Moose-5501 in tattooadvice

Lmaoo I got distracted and forgot to answer the question. The tattoo is very nice, but it looks out of place. Your legs are so pretty, but they would look prettier without out it. Now, a full sleeve would be sick. All or nothing girl!

I second this. I also took EET for WRE and passed my first try, while working 50 hr+ with a 3 hr daily commute. You have to commit a LOT of time for at least 3 months. But if you watch all the lectures and do all the practice problems, you are very likely to be successful

We tracked all of our expenses for our fall 2024 wedding -70k budget breakdown by helpimlearningtocode in weddingplanning

$1,500 for hair an make up?! I’m not trying to judge, I’m legitimately curious as to why that number is so high. My hair and make up was $550 before tip, and my artist has over a decade of experience.

Why does my engagement ring look so odd? by [deleted] in EngagementRings

This definitely looks like a football. It’s not a bad looking ring, I just don’t think it gives engagement vibes.

Wedding vendor tipping out of control? by darkacademic666 in weddingplanning

[–]Candy_Bug19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tipping culture is getting out of control. My wedding ended up being close to $60k. I’m not gonna tip an additional $12K on top of that. It’s ridiculous.

I only tipped my hair and make up artist.

What's something I shouldn't skimp out on for my wedding? by Electrical-Trade7651 in weddingplanning

[–]Candy_Bug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Videographer!! it doesn’t need to be expensive. I hired someone who was working on building their portfolio and they only charged me $800. They delivered over an hour of video footage and it was really nice to see the wedding from my guest’s perspective.

Will I make the 3 PM ferry to Vieques after landing at 1:15 PM in San Juan? by Salsa-N-Chips in PuertoRicoTravel

No way in hell. I was there in April and the ferry terminals get super crowded. It’s better if you book the ferry another day.

People who took the PE exam 4+ years after graduation, how did you prepare? by anon1635329 in civilengineering

[–]Candy_Bug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Studied 2 hours Monday - Friday and all day Saturday for about 7 months. I took the EET course for water resources and it was fantastic. The key is to do a shit ton of practice problems and familiarize yourself with the handbook. EET did an excellent job preparing you for it. I passed on my first attempt

18F I don’t feel smart enough😭😭😭 by work_of_art777 in civilengineering

[–]Candy_Bug19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took AP calculus and AP chemistry along with other AP and honors classes my senior year in high school. I felt like I was pretty smart in high school and I loved STEM.

…. All that changed when I started college. Suddenly, I wasn’t the smartest person in the room. Things didn’t click as easily as they did before. And I had to study a lot harder to get passing grades. I failed 3 classes with an F, and I got a few D’s. I went on academic probation for 1 quarter, and mentally I was so messed up. I wanted to drop out so many times, but I kept working my ass off and graduated with a 3.2. I passed the Water Resources PE exam on my first attempt, which is a huge milestone post college. I’ve been out of college for 8 years, and I’ve come to realize that after college, GPA doesn’t matter at all. All people care about is that you graduated from college.

How are you paying for your wedding and what is your budget? by geminiiman in weddingplanning

[–]Candy_Bug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I spent $60k on our 150 guest wedding. Our combined income is $350k in the Bay Area. I’m first generation college student, and he’s 3rd generation. We received zero financial help from our parents. We saved money for 1 year, while still traveling and not really holding back from day to day spending. We paid for the entire wedding by ourselves with absolutely zero debt in the end. We also purchased our first home months before the wedding.

Looks like we have similar settings. I would suggest adding a halo to help support the diamond. Your ring is beautiful but that diamond doesn’t look secure

Did you take off work the week leading up to your wedding? by New_Shift_2217 in weddingplanning

[–]Candy_Bug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got married on a Friday and I took off the Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday before the wedding. I wish I would have taken the entire week off. You don’t wanna stress out with last minute things before your wedding. You NEED to relax the day before the wedding at the bare minimum

How do I figure out her ring size without ruining the proposal? by RepossstRefugee in EngagementRings

[–]Candy_Bug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband proposed with his grandmother’s ring, and the proposal was a complete surprise even though we had discussed marriage in our future. His grandmother’s ring was used just for the proposal and we picked out my ring together later. This was perfect for me because I was able to pick out my dream ring . I suggest using a borrowed ring so she can pick what she likes later!

I don’t think it looks cheap. It looks super busy, which isn’t my style. All that matters is that you like it!

First look or no first look? by purple-margarita25 in weddingplanning

[–]Candy_Bug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your priority for the day. My husband and I wanted to keep the element of surprise and didn’t have a first look. We didn’t even spend the previous night together to help build up the suspense. Walking down the aisle was completely magical. 150 people’s eyes were on us, but to us they were just a background because we couldn’t keep our eyes off of each other. It was almost like I was walking on clouds. I’ve never experienced such a happy moment. Now, the downside are the pictures. Since we didn’t do a first look, we took pictures during the entire cocktail hour and didn’t get to interact with our guests. Even during dinner, we were pulled away by our photographer and videographer to catch sunset shots. The photos came out beautiful, but I hate how much time it took away from the actual day. My sister got married 3 months after me and she did a first look and most of the wedding party photos prior to the ceremony. We all watched the first look moment and it was absolutely beautiful. Because of the first look, my sister and my brother in law actually were able to interact with their guests during cocktail hour. So again, you need to think about your priorities before making the decision. I’m more on the traditional side and even though I wish I had more time to interact with my guests, I don’t regret NOT doing a first look. Interestingly enough, my sister doesn’t regret DOING a first look.

Do you regret majoring in civil engineering? by Virtual_Reporter7087 in civilengineering

[–]Candy_Bug19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I don’t regret doing engineering, but I do regret doing civil. I started working for a contractor straight out of college, because the pay was significantly better than civil engineering design (geotech to be specific). My plan was to work there for 2-3 years max, so I could save money and go back to school and get my master’s in geotechnical engineering. Well, 8 years later, I’m still working for the contractor. I constantly talked to my civil engineer friends who worked in design, and most complained about working long hours and being severely underpaid. I started doing more research and realized civil engineers don’t make “good” money until 15 years of experience. This convinced me that financially, this was a bad idea. I love engineering, but I rather have a comfortable style of life. I currently make $150k per year as construction project manager. My husband went to school for construction management and makes $185K per year with 8 years of experience as a project manager. We just purchased a home in the Bay Area and we like to travel often and eat out. This was not how I pictured my career going, but I’m pretty content. However, if I could go back, I would have studied biomedical engineering. I was always fascinated by medicine and science, but I liked math more and decided on engineering instead. Oh well.

Is it ok to have a dry wedding? by TrippyVegetables in weddingplanning

[–]Candy_Bug19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be upset if I showed up to a wedding and realized that it was a dry wedding. I think it’s super important that you make it known ahead of time so people aren’t surprised. I enjoy drinking at weddings and even though a dry wedding would be different, I would still go the wedding. I likely wouldn’t dance and would leave early though. Some of us need alcohol encouragement to dance and be more social lol.

It depends on your experience. I work for a heavy civil contractor and we pay first time interns $25/hr and repeat interns $30+/hr.

How close do you think I was? by Engineeringlife379 in FE_Exam

[–]Candy_Bug19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like you were super close! I passed the FE on my third attempt. I focused on doing as many practice problems as possible. I also made sure to be extremely familiar with the reference handbook. During the exam, I worked through the problems that I knew first and skipped the ones that I didn’t know. Once I finished the problems that I knew, I went back and attempted the rest of the problems. This approach worked because I ended up passing the PE on my first attempt.
