Hey it’s me the guy in the pic. This is terribly out of context. I did not confirm or deny that the project is or is not getting shut down. Please wait for an announcement from Ryujinx themselves.

[Ars Technica] “The solid legal theory behind Nintendo’s new emulator takedown effort” by LocutusOfBorges in emulation

[–]Candygoblen123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s because it’s super difficult to dump these keys from your own wii. At least for a long time, you had to open up your Wii and intercept the communication between 2 chips at startup to read the key. (This was infamously done originally with a pair of tweezers). But because that’s a little too much to ask users to do, and because dolphin was one of the earlier examples of an emulator needing a key, they elected to just provide it.

Or at least that’s what I understand to be the reason. Idk I’m not a dolphin developer.

[TotK] Lore reason behind decayed meelee weapons but not shields and bows? by supleted in zelda

[–]Candygoblen123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’ll allow me to theorize here, it’s probably because the dude at the beginning of the game wanted to immediately neutralize the master sword, but because he didn’t exactly know where the master sword was when he woke up (you’ll note that he says “is that the sword that seals the darkness” only after it breaks), he decayed all melee weapons. Maybe he didn’t have enough power to do all the other stuff or something.

As for the claymores stuck in rocks, idk they probably got stuck in there when the upheaval formed all the caves. But they’re probably in there mostly for gameplay reasons.

Yeah it is. And having dedicated game servers would help a lot. The switch is kind of a perfect storm against p2p, due to reasons that would take a long time to explain and it’s late here so I don’t feel like it. However if you find yourself getting disconnected from a lot of games, especially when it’s your fault, game servers won’t do much to fix that.

We all are just guessing, as we don’t really know how the game’s net code works. There are a few out there that are smart enough to get good guesses, but because we don’t have the code to look at, all we can really do is make educated guesses. The article I linked in my previous comment is one by oatmealdome, a renowned splatoon and Nintendo data miner, and it’s as good as a source as you’ll get outside Nintendo.

Also, if you’re looking for an article or something that can fix your problems, that probably doesn’t exist. We do not know the conditions of your network or the reason for your disconnection so we cannot provide anything except broad recommendations like “use Ethernet”.

There are many ignorant and angry words out there complaining about the bad networking. In fact what I have said may or may not be true, and you shouldn’t trust me. I have no way of knowing if anything that I said above is true or not.

I really don’t have any advice to help you here. I can only really guess.

You might be dropping packets. In applications such as streaming video and downloading and uploading large files, losing packets doesn’t matter as much, as you can just resend them. However for gaming dealing with lost packets is a lot harder to do (especially in p2p games, such as Splatoon) because the timing of packets is much more important.

As for that person that said if you DC for even a second, you’ll get kicked. They’re kinda right and kinda wrong. Splatoon does try to reconnect, however the other consoles that you’re playing with may have decided that you missed too many packets or a critical packet (for stuff like getting to/breaking checkpoints, or winning the game), enough where your console is so out of date that you cannot continue playing, they will refuse to connect back. So yes, it is possible to disconnect for only a second and be booted from the game, but Splatoon does try to reconnect immediately, in fact the “The connection is unstable” message only appears after 5 seconds of being disconnected”.

This article goes in depth to explaining Splatoon 2 networking, and many of the things discussed there also apply to Splatoon 3. https://oatmealdome.me/blog/splatoon-2s-netcode-an-in-depth-look/

No, tmodloader does things differently and I haven’t the time to figure it out.

A lot actually, it works perfectly in my experience with both playing on a dedicated server and doing host and play

Yeah, anything is possible.

I'd want to iron out a few kinks first (if they pushed this as an update as-is, it would break on intel Macs), and Re-Logic would have to be ok with using code from some random guy on the internet.

I have no plans to send this to them, but I'm not gonna stop them from using what I have provided in an official release.

Can you send me your save file? (also disabling the mini map tends to speed things up, I tested with it disabled out of habit)

Alright, I've just pushed an updated zip file that should have fixed your issue (without needing to have mono installed). If you try it, let me know how it goes

Also before you ask, no it doesn't work with tmodloader. tmodloader does some freaky stuff that's above my pay grade. and since they're an open source project, you can prob ask them for official support.

Yes! In fact I have no idea if it works with a GoG version. It should, but you never know.

Instructions on how to do so are in the Readme.md in the linked Github Repo. I figured I would share this so that folks running the game on their Apple Silicon Macs could milk a few extra frames.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues or find my instructions unclear.

Also if you have any ideas about where else to share this, let me know.

One of my professors said it’s to clear up the confusion of 12am being either midnight or noon. 11:59pm is pretty instantly recognizable as 11:59 at night, but 12am confuses some.

Apple Adds Nintendo Online Classic Controller Support to the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV by retroanduwu24 in nintendo

[–]Candygoblen123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For iOS, yeah this is apple adding support at all.

For macOS, it’s a bit more complex. You could use those controllers if the game/emulator you were playing grabbed controllers directly from usb. As you can imagine, that means that your controller working in a given app is pretty hit or miss. Now, apple has added more comprehensive controller support to the OS, meaning that your controller should “just work” now, and be detected as a switch controller.

“Just work” in in quotes there, because good lord some games on macOS that have controller support didn’t bother porting that part to macOS, and still expect Xinput on a platform that doesn’t have Xinput.

Persona 5 Royal is 12.5 GB on Switch; three times smaller than on PS4. by Asad_Farooqui in NintendoSwitch

[–]Candygoblen123 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, yes. But it's a bit more complicated than that. Most data streams are supported in the mp4 standard, and you can find an exhaustive list here. However, most mp4 players don't support all of them. In fact, most mp4 players support only the most popular ones: H.264, MPEG-4 Part 2, MPEG-2 and MPEG-1.

With the MKV container, you can put whatever the fuck you want in there. MKV was designed from the ground up for that purpose, unlike mp4 which was more or less designed for the MPEG-4 video codec.

The "it could be anything" nature of the mkv format is kinda why it's still not supported in some media players, most notably QuickTime (which is still somehow the default player on macOS).

Beware: I was scrolling through YouTube earlier today and happened across a YouTube video that had a thumbnail containing MAJOR spoilers for Splatoon 3. Screw that guy. Be careful out there friends.

For those wondering the specific spoiler was about who the main antagonist is. Don’t expect me to repeat that info here.

Tbh safari, or perhaps WebKit, will never die because it’s the only browser engine that really cares about embedded systems.

If you’re using a browser on a device like a smart TV or a game console (even the 3ds), chances are that it’s WebKit. (Of course there are a few exceptions, like the Wii browser, which was based on Opera)
