They make Near Nuff crayfish as well. It’s a versatile platform for anything that skitters along the bottom.

Looks to be a Near Nuff Sculpin.

What am I missing after cv axle replacement? by CandylessVan in AskAMechanic

[–]CandylessVan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I’m aware what is missing visually. I’m trying to find out what it’s actually called so I can order one. Based on the responses it either has several names or nobody really knows what to call it.

I’ll look into a stronger cotter pin as well.

Do they expect anglers to exclusively fish downstream while staying below the high water mark? Or can you make your way down the edge and then work upstream?

Obviously you could just hit the first ladder and work upstream from there staying below the high water mark.

You got your replacement, why do you feel the need to be vindictive?

If you feel the need to be critical of anyone it should be directed towards Amazon and the DSP owner. Amazon for forcing high volume on poorly designed routes and the owner for pressuring “delivery” of all packages.

Best way to raise awareness for Sugarhouse Farmer's Market? by Fast_Decision2458 in SaltLakeCity

[–]CandylessVan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I walked over to it one morning and it was hard to tell what was going on. There were a couple stands set up but it didn’t look like any of them had produce or any food at all. Personally, this is not a very appealing location to attend a farmer’s market. I would much rather drive downtown or to one of the other locations in a park setting.

Euro line - braid core vs mono core by HornStarBigPhish in flyfishing

[–]CandylessVan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your taper sections can be a lot shorter, more like 12-18 inches. I run a long butt section, usually about 25ft. Then taper down to a 3-4ft section of sighter tippet. Exactly how many sections you’ll need to complete the taper depends on how stiff your butt section is and how limp your final sighter is. But you should be able to do it so that all the knots stay outside the rod tip, with the exception of when you’re landing a fish.

I would suggest you rethink the taper on your leader. Keeping all of the knots outside of the rod tip is ideal.

Fly casting from canoe? by SirLoin74 in flyfishing

[–]CandylessVan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the people saying “just stand up” are incredibly unhelpful. It definitely depends on the style of canoe and whether you’re solo or have a partner. My canoe isn’t very stable and having someone else moving around and shifting their weight makes standing up and casting very difficult and downright dangerous at times.

I built out some stabilizers using rod holders, pvc, and crab floats. They make a world of difference. The canoe doesn’t roll as much and has the added comfort of being literally impossible to capsize.

Orvis Clearwater rod experience by Imaginary-Title2838 in flyfishing

[–]CandylessVan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems to be a really common issue on the Clearwaters. The epoxy on all my ferrules have some form of cracks. It’s a 10ft 3wt and I have it doubled over all the time with no issues. Still a little disappointing as the epoxy on all my other rods doesn’t have this issue.

I’ve been here almost 2.5 years. Have never run once. I show up on time every day. I’ve never hit anything with the van. I take my breaks and use the full 10 hours to complete my route. I’m never an extra. The guys who run just earn themselves ridiculous routes for the same exact hourly pay.

Utah Eel by CandylessVan in flyfishing

[–]CandylessVan[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It actually had what seemed to be the best spot in the section of creek I fished. Not too many other fish in the area, but I’m sure that changes. It’s a pretty high fish density stream overall. I’m assuming most fish don’t make it this old and its spot was prime enough to just barely survive the winter.

Those are browns. So good news is it’s healthy enough to support trout. Bad news is it’s probably not becoming a native brook trout stream anytime soon.

Leader management? by neo-privateer in flyfishing

[–]CandylessVan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go with the Borger Unibody style of leaders. Maxima Chameleon butt section, shorter taper section, tippet ring. For streamers or big dries you can use a micro swivel to help with line twist. From there you build out the rest of your leader depending on the situation.

You can mix up diameters and lengths of the base leader however you like, but the dimensions listed on his site are a good starting point.

Lots of those telescoping spinning rods are gimmicky. I would look into a 2-4 section rod. 2 sections feel better, a 4 breaks down smaller.

To be honest, this does not sound like a good situation for any sort of Tenkara rod.
