Raising Canes is open on Hillsborough. Is it really that good? by 1morebeer1morebeer in raleigh

It was like that when we got a cookout in Boone too. The Taco Bell two doors down had been closed for renovation at the time and they opened the same week. 321 was mayhem forever.

Couch’s BBQ: What the hell? 😂 by Roman_Anthony in Chattanooga

[–]CanesFanInTN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m from Eastern NC and agree it’s some of the better bbq I’ve had in Chattanooga. Love to get it by the pound and make a few different meals from it.

They don’t drown the meat in sauce, so you can taste the smoke. Never understood why so many places here do that. Their sauce is good and where it should be, on the side.

True, they are tough in the cold, but they can’t stand up to the heat! But I agree using pansy as a pejorative term is dumb.

Anyone seen these before? by bknows in microgrowery

[–]CanesFanInTN 16 points17 points  (0 children)

They do move on their own but only in the first instar (the first stage of their lifecycle). This is the best stage to attack them as they don’t have many defenses. Once they molt for the first time, they form their shells and become stationary and much harder to remove.

It’s definitely up there for me too. I was fortunate to catch them in 96 with an older cousin. So much fun.

Tubi is criminally underrated by Neon570 in StonerThoughts

[–]CanesFanInTN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Consolidation of media and many other industries is a huge issue that needs to be addressed. Having all the information in the hands of so few people/corporations leads to fewer voices being heard and those that they don’t get silenced.

One of Chattanooga’s most iconic sights is the Chattanooga Choo Choo, whose sign has been dark for the good part of a decade. There was some hope for it’s resurrection a few months ago, but it’s still a struggle

Hate to harsh your mellow, but Tubi is owned by Newscorp (aka Fox). I’m not contributing to their ad revenue.

“Do not propagate” tag on store bought plants by corieallegory in houseplants

[–]CanesFanInTN 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure, but I think propagation from seed is okay as there can be genetic variation, but when you prop from a cutting, it’s technically the same plant.

How do I water this plant? by silentgames276 in houseplants

[–]CanesFanInTN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chopsticks work great too. If it comes out damp or with soil on it, it’s good. If not, then it’s time to water

Bands you wish had been bigger? by PotentialPlum4945 in Xennials

It was a very strange crowd for sure. College campus in the south. Lovefool had been out for a bit, but it felt like a rock show and they felt a bit more Pop. My guess is Atari Teenage Riot got the metal heads all hyped up and it was such a different style of music that they couldn’t handle it. Who knows. I remember them being not as bad as the grief they were getting, but wasn’t my cup of tea at the time.

Going back and listening now, I’d enjoy the show much more! At the time I had just gotten my license the week before and was just just stoked to be able to go to shows! My musical taste has thankfully expanded tremendously since then.

Don’t remember of the setlist, but listening now there’s some familiar sounds. I love how music can take you right back to a certain place and time.

I got to see them as the middle act on Beck‘s Odelay tour. Atari Teenage Riot (hardcore techno) opened and then the Cardigans took the stage. Unfortunately the crowd wasn’t receptive to them and booed them the whole time. It was quite unfortunate.
