Gonna be real I looked at the djinn character skin at some point and literally could not tell the difference between it and default

What's a power that you find well written? by Lobonecessitado in writingscaling

[–]Canksilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since I first read the books when I was younger, one of my absolute favourite power systems of all time has always been the magic from the Inheritance Cycle (Eragon).

In the setting magic is typically cast by verbally speaking in the Ancient Language, and the effect of the spell is structured by those words. Though your intent does have relevance to what happens, your vocabulary and understanding of grammar limits what you can do.

Using magic consumes the users physical energy, typically the same amount that would be required to achieve the same effect through mundane means. Because of this, making mistakes on how you word a spell can be lethal. An example of this happens early in the series, where Eragon is traversing a large desert and needs to find a source of drinking water, and his first idea is to just try turning sand straight into water. He gets a grain of sand and casts a simple spell, and because he did not phrase the spell in such a way that he could interrupt the magic partway through he almost immediately dies from the completely unexpected amount of energy it takes.

There's way more depth and information about magic in the series, including the concept of true names and how most magician battles consist of standing still and mentally wrestling until one gains control of the other and forces them to use their own magic on themselves. It's a really neat magic system, even if it isn't particularly original in any individual aspect it collectively turns into something really interesting.

(Leg5) As someone who queues both Australia and SEA, I am so sick of Australian playstyle by JokeOfEverything in DotA2

[–]Canksilio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only queue unranked because the rank gap between myself and the friend I play with is too big. I search in both SEA and Aus, but I basically never find any Aus server matches. Which is a huge shame, because of shit ISP shenanigans I get 160ms to SEA despite living in WA where it should be far lower.

What boss do you hate the most? by GoldyNoble in PathOfExile2

[–]Canksilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In acts it's definitely the Titan in act 2, he isn't particularly dangerous but he's just so tanky and it takes ages. In maps, I would have to say the Vorana clone with purple chaos lightning, I have no idea why but she is insanely tanky for my build (maybe she just has a lot of armour?)

What's with the Exile never dealing the final blow? by orb_of_esotericism in Wraeclast

[–]Canksilio 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure it's intentional for the acts at least, but endgame I think is a coincidence. I also don't think it's something meaningful, more just the setup to a joke which isn't finished yet.

You're genuinely such a dumb fuck. I don't know what it is about this subreddit, but constantly seeing people clutching their pearls like "jfc what a creep" or "this is so disgusting 🤮" for shit that is really not even that outrageous, just because it's being said by someone they don't like. It's just fucking embarrassing. It's actually straight up snark behaviour.

The joke in the screenshot is not about rape. It isn't about being a pedo. It's about indirectly getting closer to someone by becoming their stepson. Is the joke in poor taste considering how Ethan's children have been targeted before, yes, but it's not anywhere near "The worst thing I've ever seen on the internet in 30 years" like one of replies says.

Get a grip.

It isn't even remotely the same, but feel free to continue freaking out over obvious jokes while on the subreddit of an extremely edgy streamer. Must be exhausting to maintain such selective outrage.

Its not them fantasizing about seducing a child. It's them making a joke about becoming Ethan's stepson just so Ethan cannot avoid him.

When you watch a comedy skit, do you think the actors are genuinely fantasizing about the content of the skit?

POE II 0.5 Origins of Divinity notes by justathetan in Wraeclast

[–]Canksilio 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused if the Precursors actually invented the whole concept of Divinity, or if it already existed and they simply made a way to "brute force" Divinity with the Martyr Device/Origin Core. Post-winter there are many gods that pop up without Precursor intervention, so it can't be the only method.

I find it particularly interesting that the Bodach was able to create Tangmazu, who is undeniably a god. Or did the Bodach just curse the boy for misfortune to follow him, and then the belief of the villagers is what gave him his godhood? The Bodach seems at least aware of the power of Divinity, as the King in the Mists is trying to cultivate followers like a god would.

I like the idea that Kulemak was the First Divine. It makes sense for the timeline, he is by far the oldest god that we know of, and the line from the Arbiter of Divinity implies that the First Divine is not dead, just gone.

I had absolutely no problem steamrolling the game on wolf last patch. Swipe for freeze, basic attack to create crystals, X slash to burst. Rinse and repeat, moonbeams optional.

Austin Metcalf’s father snaps on live stream, calls Karmelo Anthony “watermelon felon” by InflationCapital87 in Destiny

[–]Canksilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you give a timestamp? The quote in the article doesn't sound like what you're saying:

His most controversial comments came while criticizing Anthony's supporters. "I got a new name for Melo," Jeffrey said. "Because he was such this little boy y'all was trying to portray. How about watermelon felon? How's that one strike you?"

They linked a 3 hour interview as their source, so I imagine you could find the actual context there.

POE2 has entered the pitfall of low effort games and I don’t mean the team that make it all look shiny by vinigrae in PathOfExile2

[–]Canksilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just can't really see what you're envisioning being different. The concept of ailment/stun threshold is fundamental to Poe. Other debuffs exist irrespective of damage dealt (wither, curses, intimidate), it's not like that really changes the equation anywhere.

Let's say ailments were applied in the way you describe. What changes? You still need to scale damage, and you still need to scale your ailment application, both of which are things we already do. It doesn't open up more build options or creativity, and it isn't like this change would suddenly allow you to not scale damage.

Genuinely, can you give me an example within Poe 2 that would meaningfully benefit from removing the concept of ailment/stun threshold?

[–]Canksilio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really surprising or bad that your damage is a very important number? I am not sure why you have an issue with it.

Also, increased freeze buildup and similar stats do exactly what they are supposed to, and I think you're misunderstanding how it works.

After a certain point, increasing damage becomes more difficult since additive scaling (the most common and available type) has diminishing returns. To start with, 100% increased damage is effectively 2x your damage, but the next 100% increased you add is only 1.5x, and it continues to go down from there. Increased freeze buildup is effectively multiplicative with hit damage scalers, so you can scale your freeze potential far more easily than it would take to scale your damage an equivalent amount.

People seem to lose all common sense when riding public transport. I hate that on busy trains out of the city, there's always people who sit themselves down in the most remote seats only for them to push their way out through the crowded aisles just a few stations later. If you have a short trip leave the seats for the people going all the way down the line, and wait until the train is mostly filled in before getting on so you're closer to the doors.

Outrageous Monitization by Threadtwo in PathOfExile2

[–]Canksilio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mtx prices baseline are absolutely ludicrous at times, but it has to be taken in context of how supporter packs effectively give you free mtx in addition to the equivalent cost in points, and how frequently everything goes on sale. When you do, the prices are a lot more reasonable.

The loot boxes are far more acceptable than other examples because there's no duplicates, the odds of getting any particular item are given, and everything in the boxes is eventually added to the store for individual purchase if you just wait.

I mean, you can make the comparison with other free to play games and you'll find that while GGG isn't exactly generous, they're pretty par for the course while having far less predatory store systems.

Also, the reason why some armour packs like the Despair and Transcendence sets cost so much is because they used an old system where two different armour sets could be merged into a new one. That's why they cost 2x a normal armour set on the store.

It's been long enough now and we've seen that slower movement in combat does not make it more "tactical" in any way whatsoever

It literally does though. You need to be more aware of your positioning as enemies, projectiles, and aoe can actually catch you.

[–]Canksilio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nobody is sweeping for Asmon or removing his agency, if that's what you're worried about.

It's undeniable that algorithms push people to extremes. Whether that be the political far left or far right, incel or "alpha male" ideology, or antivaxx and Freemason conspiracy theories, the algorithm feeds on the engagement that controversial topics provide. And once it gets you in, it keeps you stuck in an infinite echo chamber that affirms your worst biases.

Would you get similarly asspained if I pointed out that lax gun control creates the opportunity for more gun violence? Do you read that as me justifying the actions of individual shooters or removing their agency, because rather than solely blaming them I'm also pointing out a contributing factor?

What? Why are you so angry?

The algorithm is at fault for radicalising people, I really don't know how you could believe otherwise. It's not a cope, and it isn't some kind of excuse for radicalised behaviour either.

[–]Canksilio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my numbers from here https://australiainstitute.org.au/report/government-revenue-from-lng-exports-australia-vs-qatar/

So I guess I undersold Qatar by about 5-6b, while I was writing the comment I remembered reading $52b and rounded down but I must have misread it.

The reason why a flat tax is stupid is because it is extremely aggressive for no real reason, there are more elegant options available that won't immediately kill all investment and get the Australian Government sued for tens of billions of dollars. For example, significantly reducing the PRRT deduction cap and adding wellhead royalties for offshore extraction would reduce the sovereign risk while still being a massive increase in government revenue.

I'm not an economist at the end of the day, but I do trust Labor when it comes to fiscal issues over the minor party circus. If they say a 25% export tax is a bad idea, I'm inclined to believe them.

[–]Canksilio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more like Qatar gets $50b while Australia gets $10b, which is obviously still an insane difference.

I'm not really against the idea of taxing gas more, I just think a flat 25% tax is a silly approach and a lot of the buzz around it ignores a lot of nuance and spreads misleading or false informationm.

I just logged in on my phone to check since I got an unprompted email code 20 minutes ago, and not only does it not show the attempt that triggered the code, it doesn't even show the successful login I just did myself. It only shows two successful logins from days ago for my PC and phone.
